Switzerland is safem and often more than most of the country around it. But Switzerland is no paradise and you can get in bad situation because Swiss are only humans.
And additionally our human nature will lead to situation where people will feel the need to protect themselves a lot more than necessary. And that come from the environment you are in (some places are definitely going to be/feel less safe for various reasons), the type of media you consume, your personal habits,…

People around me carried knives all the time. Glad to see journalism caught up. Next headline:Pokémon Go recently came out.
Thats a city problem. And we should all know why!

Idk, but as kids, we always knew who was usually wearing a knife and should not be provoked or refused his special wishes like taking over the soccer field with his friends from us.
This was in the 90ies.
Self defense against knifes is bullshit. Unless they teach you to run.
I’m a German working in Switzerland (Zürich) … as a foreigner let me drop this joke: “too many foreign people in Swiss cities”
no, just kidding … all the people I have met in Zürich, whether Swiss or foreign were super polite and very friendly … I was shocked to hear that it is possible to get mugged in Zürich
Isn’t it still this way, that you need a job (which has been open for a while but no Swiss candidates are available) to even come to Switzerland? how is it possible that someone is so poor that he/she has to rob other people, when these people can’t enter the country legally?
Obviously it is always possible that you get mugged or attacked. Yes even in Switzerland (shocker, yes I know). But as far as I can see the amount of Muggings and stabbings is still minimal compared to other places, and even if the increase might seem big in terms of percentage, it’s really not (if you had one stabbing in 2020 and 3 in 2021, that’s an increase of 200%, but two stabbings more isn’t that significant in total). For me that just looks like your average 20 Minuten clickbaiting.
Video for people who shit their pants on badenerstrasse. edit: wheres that self defence video in the uk where the guy says ” shoot his fucking balls off”
