“But we only need to look to Belgium to see that an alternative is very much possible..”

  1. Don’t look at us. It’s the lesser of two evils. They should regulate the energy market on european level+gb. Not these kind of half measures. Other people are becoming poor too because of these half measures.

  2. People: we can’t afford €500-1.000 more each month for energy !

Government: we are going to give everyone a one time discount of a few hundred euro.

Translated to Flemish: hier, nen euro.

  3. Free loans for companies that install or produce solar panels, insulation, heat pumps and the likes. Have them recruit a shit ton of people. Lower their vat or social costs idc but these companies need to grow, so people can install these technologies. Then subsidize those technologies heavily instead of giving a cheque. Make it worth it for landlords to renovate (lower their taxes for the amount spent or a certain amount per epc lower, or the reduction in energy usage… Or something… Let them share in the profits of solar panels….)
Then, come next winter, our energy usage will be a lot lower and our energy demand will lower te prices. In theory…

Maybe get those windmills up faster, and allow farmers to combine their crops with solar panels (agrivoltaics) so they can produce energy as well as food.

Just spitballing here, but this would feel like a more sustainable way of handling the crisis vs a one or two time cheque and a vat reduction (which doesnt insentivize reduction of energy usage).
