Hello everyone, i’m looking for a WG in Halle (Saale) before my studies began and i have contacted this dude via whatsapp, after sending my application [this](https://ibb.co/fGGhzGv) is how he responded.
My question is are they refusing me because i’m an international or rent contracts over the duration of 3 fucking years (6 semesters) are normal here and i’m being simply paranoid?

  1. Not normal but legal. I would assume they just don’t want to have to bother to find a new person for a while. If they didn’t want you, they wouldn’t need to make up some weird shit. They would just say “we found someone else”. Yes, you’re being paranoid.

  2. Three years as a lease term is long but not unheard of. But note there’s also a big difference between an actual term of three years and them just preferring someone who has indicated a likelihood to stay longterm. The latter absolutely isn’t unreasonable

  3. For a student WG, that would be weird, because none of them would live there long beyond their own studies either. But well, there are other kinds of WGs and maybe this is one of them. How did they advertize themselves?

In any case, you have no legal right to this room, so if they refuse you for whatever bullshit reason, it’s best to just move on.

  4. I once rented a big appartment and made a WG of my own. I usually preferred to have “local” Students. Just because if you vibe, it keeps the option open to have a longer lease together and no hassle in finding new flatmates.

For me it was just an option, one left after 6 month. The other one stayed for 2 years and we had a good time…
