Mine goes up +13%, and I already had the second cheapest available in my canton (VD). If I change to the new cheapest plan it will only be a 8% increase. At some point they will need to introduce 5k, 10k franchises.
At the very core, the way Our Swiss healthcare system is financed, is basically like the US, but with loads of band-aids to keep it universal and , more or less, affordable. The two most expensive healthcare systems are 1st the US (around $12k/inhabitant), and Switzerland, around $10k/inhabitant. While most other rich, developed democracies are in the $3k-$6k range, because they implemented public insurance (instead of what we have, private insurance).
Private healthcare insurances don’t innovate. They only try to increase profits, by increasing prices, and lowering quality care for patients. Perhaps, it’s time for us Swiss to move into Cantonal level single-pay, non-profit, healthcare system? 23 cantonal public insurances would be a first step to test the model?
The law obliges us to subscribe to a private insurance. It’s NOT fair.
Either it should exist a public insurance.
Either the insruance should not be mandatory.
Either all the benefits should be reinjected to the insurance (and not to shareholders).
We actually give money to shareholders because of that law. Is that fair ? No.
Ugh I already pay so much. I will mention it in my salary review.
These insurance companies are sure on a self-destruction mode with these exorbitant increments.
In Canton Neuchâtel it is on average a 9.5% increase. For an elderly person in bad health that can represent a 40 CHF increase per month. Or 50 CHF if they do not have “Family Doctor” model.
Awesome. My parents, who are on the edge of poverty, are probably crying right now.
Funny, it’s been 5 years since my last salary increase.
