Sure, and there are boat lifts nearby, the new one that used to be the largest in the world until a few years ago, and the 4 older ones.
Very nice (and easy) bicycle trip to do.
Oh yes we do! Gets posted here every few months.
It’s one of those huge build projects our goverment did that doesn’t really add much economic value but sure looks cool.
I already went multiple times under it, it’s in La Louvière.
As a Dutchie, I appreciate this kind of aquatic engineering.
The area makes for a fun day trip. The huge boat lift is very cool to visit, and the historical ones nearby are worth a look too. I did it with friends in August 2020 because it’s easy to socially distance.
Wallonia received this, Ronquieres and Streppy Thieu while Flanders got zeebrugge. Wallonia didn’t anticipate that France would abandon commercial usage of inland channels in favor of their harbors from Le Havre and Marseille. What a waste.
I do think we need some more high end infrastructure to boost our economy however if you see these dubious choices I wouldn’t know what that could be.
It’s a pain in the ass to drive there around 16.00 when all the local factories and companies end their shift. A few km behind, you have the boat lift, which was the largest in the world until China made their giant dam!
But what’s really worth is the brewery St-Feuillien 2 roundabouts and 1 km to the left!!!

Funny, I drove under it last week.
But do you need it?
Near Binche
I advice everyone to bike from Brussels to Charleroi next to the channel. It’s a very peculiar experience were you pass a lot of underused infrastructure. Like the [boat train of Ronquières](https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/proxy/kO2MdDcIlervBP-hIUDPNhAAP823ehnICYTt3PoOQLXV4jPh4NZ2vhodZpMQbr1hvmMNctQ-YbOwyFo-5L8JPEMnloYIOMBz89vdvhdvx5-ixk3h) and [this weird elevato](https://cdn.wbtourisme.be/sites/default/files/styles/ifttt/public/feeds/phototheque/19020.JPG?itok=-dCjWExN)r. It’s all very eerie and reminiscent of a more optimistic time for the region.
