Super proud of this 3D printed Geological model for teaching kids about Irelands Strata/geothermal potential. Done at UCD as a project. Look at the 3D printed sheep and houses!

FANTASTIC build by my colleague- a model made to teach kids about geology in Ireland.
– 3D printed houses, sheep, tractors and custom tower inserts.
– Laser cut frame/box and panels
– Expanded foam base for the top surface sculpted by hand
– Traditional model-making materials such as resin, grass, trees, bushes and paints.
The kids play a game learning about strata by picking a drill site. Pulling up the drill rig reveals a ‘core sample’ of the specific site. The 4 sites give a hint at what’s below the surface.
The front panel slides out and reveals a cut-away of the countryside’s geologic strata to see if their guess of the overall profile is accurate. It simulates siltstone, Shale, Limestone, Sandstone and Granite.
That’s brilliant. Thought I spied a granite pluton there. The great thing about Ireland is the varied geology across the whole island. What are the potentials for geothermal in Ireland, is it mostly shallow or deep? Keep up the good work and researching the future energy sources.
This is excellent.
That’s really cool!🙂
Unfortunately it will never get done, old people will just complain how it ruins their view or some shite
Ahaha while I love the model the big towers make it look like something that the Maumnahaltora community association would make to oppose any development.
Mmmm. Forbidden dildos.
Two story cows!
1. Congrats 2. The 3D modelling, looking into it, blender comes up, repeatedly. Tried that program, years ago. Ass handed to me. Too difficult, lack of grit, whatever. Did ye use blender or do you have a way around it. Looks class.
Amazing work!
