I’m not on the medical card or anything, i just dont know what i’m looking for, i have stuff i want to speak about but i feel like i need to clarify with someone what i need and who can point me in the right direction and get me an appointment. (do i need a counselor or a therapist, is there a difference?)
I thought http://www.counsellingconnections.ie/cc/ would be the ticket but they havent answered the phone all week so i dont even know if they’re still active and i dont want anything online, i just want to sit down and talk to someone about my asshole brain and dickhead feelings

I used Bark to get a counsellor for my son.
I used their website and put in where I lived and age and I matched with 9ne, she phoned that night and us €50 per session.
If you have a GP, they usually can recommend some.
I googled it and picked the highest rated group near me. I emailed them and they asked for an overview of what I was looking for, then matched me to one of their counsellors. Worked out well.
My response is a little Dublin-centric, but I’ve personally dealt with two centres that I found to be responsive and helpful:

The varied professional bodies that (self)regulate counselling and psychotherapy in Ireland are listed [here](https://counsellingandtherapy.com/understanding-professional-regulation/) and most will maintain lists of therapists/clinicians on their websites. It might also be possible to get a referral through your GP?
I’ve paid between €50 – €65 per session in the past, and some centres and practitioners will have a sliding scale depending on your means.
Disclaimer – I don’t know too much about the field, though I’ll ask a friend who does and update this post if he has any useful info.

Check the IHAIP register. There are also clinics which do reduced rate and pro bond therapy too if the cost is an issue.
Have a look at boards .ie in the Psychology section, there’s a good thread with prompts to help you to figure out what kind of therapist to look for etc. Also how to find out if they are properly accredited.
Your GP can usually recommend one.
Useful information if you go to your GP and ask for a mental health referral you are entitled to 6 free counselling sessions with a therapist. They will assess you and figure out if 6 sessions are enough and if not they will direct you to private therapists. They will also let you know if they think a referral to a psychiatrist and medication might suit you.

Edit: I wasn’t waiting that long to get the call the schedule appointments either. But that might be area dependent.
