The budget is tomorrow and already there is speculation and discussion so it’s megathread time.

Is it too much to ask for more of the money I earn to be given to me? I don’t want random one off payments. That’s a bandage and when the blood begins to seep through what then? oh right another bandage.
Still fucking the middle and low income and gloating about how much extra tax they have in the pot in opening statements.
When is the 40% tax band increasing, from January 2023?
Surely adding a 10% levy to pouring concrete/concrete blocks/products, will only drive up house prices?
So can someone explain how this budget affects single people on say 28-38k a year? I’m in the middle of that, apart from the €600 for the energy, I can’t see any real benefit for myself.
Anyone know of the reduction of college fees includes phds?
What income do you have to be on to be in the middle class,
Anything on capital gains tax this year, are we still stuck at 33% / 41% for EFTs?
Okay, so they say the CE Scheme top-up is being raised €5 to €25.
The CE Scheme top-up is €22.50, so one of those numbers is wrong.
Any decent calculator about to see how much better off I will be after the budget?
€30 probably be asking for too much
Rental credit is unclear.
500 euro rental credit:
1. Is it a tax credit? i.e If I am taxed on 10,000 euro a year, I’ll now only be taxed on 9,500? Which would mean I would save paying tax on 500 euro, which if on the higher tax band would save 200 odd euro
2. How does it work where people sublet from someone with a lease. Does the person with the lease claim the tax credit and pass the savings on or does everyone claim their own tax credit?
Is the petrol/diesel decrease on the current price or is it just an extension of the current cut? i.e price won’t change tonight.
Nothing for home heating oil?
Fairly ironic to have people on huge salaries come onto RTE to talk about how this might affect the lower income earners of the country. Why not have a panel of working class people display how they feel.
So,
Any incentives to negate younger people from leaving the country to have a normal life ?
**** Don’t know why I’m being down voted, there are very little to no incentives for young educated people to stay and live here. They had a chance to make some serious changes today, and they didn’t.
If you’re down voting this I’m gunna take a guess and say you voted in FF/FG
Is the rent tax credit able to be claimed by couple separately living in a house
Any mention of increasing SEAI grants to insulate homes? We looked at the external wrap last year but Jesus it was totally unaffordable for us, even with the grant
Renters tax credit of €500, anyone know is this per household or can say a married couple each claim the credit?
I’m a masters student getting the SUSI contribution. Am I up €1k or €2k? I thought it was only €1k (increase of €1000 in the SUSI) but my mother is telling me it’s 2 (reduction in fees + increase in grant).
I thought the reduction in fees was just for the undergrads. Anyone know?
There’s people giving out it’s a welfare state that also want a left government, it’s a bizarre feature of Irish politics
Looking for confirmation here in relation to third level changes. The reduction in fees is just for next year or is “once off” mean it’s a flat reduction for one years fees? Also does it apply to post-grad (level 9) I’m seeing some conflicting reports.
Also I’ll assume the SUSI threshold changes are for every level also?
I feel like a moaning Michael but we are just above the middle income
Pay full taxes on everything, full childcare, mortgage and everything. While I’m fine with paying what we have to pay we never seem to gwt a break in the budget.
The childcare fee won’t really help, if the creche ups their fees which they did last time.
Everyone is giving out about a welfare state etc and while I agree we need welfare because we will always need to help people
There are far too many people in Ireland who just relax into that lifestyle. They need to overhaul it. Help people genuinely and help them prefers off welfare if possible.
Just throwing money at it won’t work
Not even a book rental scheme for secondary which would relieve massive pressures on most families
No rent caps, no electricity caps, no gas caps and no oil caps. Vague nothings about the housing crisis and a levy on concrete to drive up the cost of building even more. A rent allowance that people need to remember was taken away from us before, it’s not new it’s something they stole and so “generously” have given back. Nothing about the madness that is food pricing now. That 600 will be a drop in the bucket for most houses because of the nonstop increases of prices per unit.
The increase of the 2nd band means nothing to the working class under 30k unless they fancy doing even more fucking work on their days off to eke out a tiny bit of money for savings that are becoming more worthless year on year due to inflation.
We’re the beaten dogs being thrown dinner scraps from the table from these fuckers. Enjoy the cold winter lads.
I like how we pay extortionate tax rates just to have poor social services and Barely be able to make ends meet
Government acting like they are giving us something back when it’s all going to the energy companies and more!
They better grab some money off these companies profits out the far side and do a proper give away to restore the essentially stolen money.
€500 to people who receive SFI & IRC-funded PhDs is a kick in the teeth. Still nowhere close to receiving minimum wage or the living wage.
Nevermind that only around ~35% of PhD students get these stipends (€18,500) a year, while the rest of us receive less than that.
We also won’t receive the €500 rent credit since we’re not taxed on our little stipend.
Anyone know if Back to Education allowance is counted as a core welfare payment?
Can’t complain personally. I’ll be in a better spot next year than this year. When compared to the recent UK budget, it feels like a windfall.
Based on the rising income tax band and renters credit I’ll be up about 830 (tax) and 500 (rental credit) meaning I’ll have an increase of 1330 next year.
My bills aren’t so expensive because I house share
Does anyone know if students renting in student accommodation can avail of the relief? Paid 6k there for the 9 months and been renting monthly for 2 years now that they have resumed normal operation.
EDIT: Working full time also in case people think I’m chancing my arm.
Actually quite a good budget. Very pleased
If you are in council accommodation can you use renters credit?
