Always fascinates me the Labour parties reluctance to embrace the flag, it’s like they hate their own country or something.
And that’s one of the reasons why I wouldn’t vote for labour at this time….
Maybe win a couple of elections in a row, bring in PR to send the Tories to the ‘phantom zone’ and then worry about this pointless shite?
And where are they gonna go? To the Tory party? Fact of the matter is Starmer needs to win over Tories and the Undecided to Labour and the fact is that those groups are generally pro-monarchy.
How to win friends and influence people. You start talking about this stuff once you’re in power, not before. The Royal Family are still popular among regular working people. You only had to watch the TV for ten minutes over the last fortnight to understand that. They’ll be slagging off British soldiers next.
Labour should focus on the inheritance tax dodged by one of the world’s richest men.
Why does a man whose family did nothing except steal and meddle in laws get to inherit 50 palaces and £30bn tax free?
Wish random no-name-nobody fringe groups in the Tory party got this much scrutiny fucking hell.
When even Momentum are saying mourning the Queen and respecting her service is the right thing to do… Think this might literally just be this one “Nick Wall” guy and his imaginary friend. Somehow deserving of an entire BBC article obviously.
As much as I agree that the national anthem is monarch worshipping hogwash that shouldn’t really have a place in the 21st century beyond bemused expressions of how archaic it all sounds… it’s got to be the lowest priority thing imaginable at this point.
That said, I don’t really see how “republicans don’t like song which glorifies the king” is really newsworthy.
Then Labour republicans don’t marry with party values themselves and should see themselves out.
I don’t give a shit about the royals but most of the country do and historically so have most Labour voters.
This country is such a pseudo democratic shit hole when the response to shit like this is “just leave the party” or “they have nowhere else to go so should shut up” because of the two party system.
I’m right wing monarchist but the national athen is just bad.
Bad tune bad rhythm boring lyrics.
Let’s take the opportunity to change it.
Anything monarchy related doesn’t marry with republican values they mean.
