Threshold: “Tax relief for renters, in budget 2023, is worth just 7 days of rent in Dublin”

  1. When they release stuff like this, it makes them look like mugs. I’m currently reading their most recent audited accounts filed with the companies office, and they are 80% funded by the Department of Housing (down from 82% in the previous year, in real terms, €2.34m). I should also state that €2.16m of that went their employees.

  2. This’ll be the same Threshold that regularly recommends tenants break tenancy law because “landlord man mean!”. I remember going to them in my student days because of a fairly minor issue and their only advise was “withhold your rent until it’s sorted”, which is the one thing anyone sensible would tell you not to do.

  3. Can someone ELI5 because I’m overwhelmed and confused – does a €500 tax credit mean an extra €500 in my pocket (over the course of a year)?

  4. Whilst €500 isnt even 1 month rents for my room in a houseshare im still pretty greatful to get anything considering the parties in this government

  5. Fuck this budget, fuck the dail, fucking burn it down someone find a fucking guillotine We need a ducking revolution to fix this shithole

  6. Only if you rent alone for 2000€ / month, which I don’t think the average person does. But don’t let reality ruin a good moaning

  7. I got excited and turned on my heating this morning in anticipation. By mid afternoon i had to turn it off. Might just sell the heater tbh. No use to me.

  8. Does anyone know what’s the story with this situation:
    – Both me and my partner are registered on RTB
    – We pay automatically every month from 1 bank account, which is mine
    – My partner transfers me his half of the rent with other expenses discounted (like electricity, internet, etc)

On my partner’s side how does he prove he pays his half of the rent as well since the receipts vary every month? Does it really matter?

  9. I’m a broke student renting. I don’t pay tax, I make so little, do I not get anything from this?
