Who gains most from Nord Stream sabotage?

  1. Imo it’s an attempt to sway the Russian people, “Look at what Nato/Western countries did, they sabotaged the pipeline so we can’t sell them gas anymore, this is why the russian people are poor etc”
Might increase willingness for the upcoming russian draft.

  2. Putin. They were already turned off, with little chance of coming back online, and blowing them up shows to oligarchs that couping him won’t allow a quick return to normal.

  3. Side note: from an environmentalt point of view we should immedieatley pump out anything left inside the pipelines. Estimations are this could be equivalent to 28.5mn Tons of CO2.

And that’s why we should probably open the valve on the german side and empty the pipe.

  4. The predictable results:

1, Increased gas price in Europe.

2, A chance to increase Western disunity by blaming the US.

    Who has the greatest motive:
    #Russia

  5. It would be interesting to see what are the damages.

If it’s a torpedo strike, the candidates are plentiful.

  6. Someone who means “don’t even think about compromising with Russia; this pipeline won’t turn back on any time soon”.
Maybe that’s what Europe didn’t want, but needed to hear.

  7. Options:

Russia has advantages and disadvantages. This thread seems to imply they do not necessarily have the ressources in the baltics: [https://twitter.com/CovertShores/status/1574750260743880710?s=20&t=xSqZVdd7sDqwPK9G3tFr6Q](https://twitter.com/CovertShores/status/1574750260743880710?s=20&t=xSqZVdd7sDqwPK9G3tFr6Q)

US: Only has advantages (Fracking gas, warning towards Russia, taking the pipelines of the playboard) and had capable forces in the region since weeks (USS Kearsarge)

Poland: advantageous, but could they have done it?

Scandinavia (DK, SWE especially) : seems unlikely

    Germany: aehm….no

Edit: And here a half-sarcastic “The french did it”-Take: https://twitter.com/AmiDeMaurice/status/1574883311519932424?s=20&t=p1XBKjbPFGyYt8l5wPmkCQ

Also possible: there have been explosive devices since last year…and now someone ignited them…ore they ignited themselves.

  8. Gazprom needs this badly to have a way out of paying billions in penalties for not delivering and breaking contracts. Now they have a great excuse and insurance money.

  9. It will be another week or two before the leak stops/slows down enough to allow divers to investigate.

So a lot of conspiracies yet to be heard.

Until Russia is found to be responsible. If it is the pro or anti Putin part of Russia is the question.
Russia is of course already blaming USA. The evil bastards that manages to sneak through shallow Danish waters undetected. Place explosives on the bottom of the sea undetected from the island of Bornholm 20 km away, that is crammed with radars and listening devices (as an outpost for NATO. And then those sneaky Americans leave shallow Danish waters again without a trace.

Sounds very likely Russia. Very believable.

  10. Is there even a mechanism at this point to prove beyond doubt that it was anybody except Russia? I mean, what could such proof possibly look like?

  11. We are at war with Russia, and this is a painful but necessary war sabotage.

    Well done, US!

  12. If Russia did it, NATO would know and say it immediately. I do not think Russia did or would be capable of doing it.

  13. NS has been the primary target of this whole escalation since the start. Ukrainians are fighting and dying to close NS, while thinking they are fighting for their land. In the end they might even be able to get their land back, but only if the primary goal is achieved – NS must be closed. Until NS is at completely closed, no negotiation will be allowed.

  14. It is hard to understand why Putin needs to cut the stream physically instead of holding the switch button, very unreasonable and stupid

  15. To everybody who says: “oh, it can’t be Russia, how are they going to pump their gas to Germany if Scholtz falls on his knees?”.

**There are two other pipelines to Germany.**

  16. What this is about, is to create uncertainty. Most probably these were explosive charges placed by Russians a long time ago. One of probably many similar preemptive elements Russia has prepared over time. Not because they were determined to use them. But just in case. And now someone decided it was as good time as ever to let it lose. Question is, how should NATO respond?

  17. If Russia did it they would loose all control over this situation and therefore their ability to bargain for anything. Removing economic sanctions will not repair the pipeline.

It would actually be smarter for Ukraine to sabotage the pipeline to remove all temptations for the eu to bargain for gas while at the same time ensuring Russia doesn’t get any profits from the gas export. I would totally support that move too

  18. No one benefits from this and no one loses anything from this.

This is why it was Russia, as they are the only idiot who would do it.

Of course I have to do some Mental gymnastic to get upvotes.
It is an insurance scam to get some money back from this failed project.
