You think house prices in Ireland are bad? Try Luxembourg.
And which area is this MP talking about where the average house price is 5K? Certainly not on the commuter belt to Dublin city.
House prices on any major capital are always expensive and yet more people spend money on drink, on cigarettes, on going on cheap holidays, late night takeaways and wait for their parents to die to inherit.
It took me an hour and a half to get to school in the mornings. Bus, metro and bus. Average temperatures in my hometown in winter ranged between -10°C and -25°C. My parents flew over with barely anything got shit jobs, and worked their asses off.
Incidentally, most continental EU residents don’t own property, especially in places like Germany and the Netherlands.
I agree about not qualifying for social housing but it really gripes my ass to read about some skobie welfare scum taking holidays in Ibiza. Sort those assholes out, tax the churches, reduce costs on civil seevants, improve health care by making it free, reduce costs of public transportation, improve the road infrastructure and for gods sakes get your religious heads out of your collective asses. Daycare should be FREE from 6 months, not dependent on some job. School teachers should be assessed and schools improved and REMOVE RELIGIOUS EDUCATION from ALL SCHOOLS.
It’s 2022, get your act sorted, Ireland.
We barely managed to secure a mortgate before eveything went belly up. Two people, working full time, with a combined salary that exceeds what is stated in the video and we were still borderline on the debt to income coefficient for the loan.
I even know Luxemburgish people that go live in France or Belgium due to that.
Imagine you can’t even live in your own country because of house prices.
Small country playing at big country taken advantage of by big businesses. The average person pays the price.
My mother is doing PHD on this exact topic comparing and analyzing the housong market in both Dublin and Luxembourg and there are a lot of similarities. It’s quite interesting and a big problem that needs to be solved ASAP.
Private debt in Lux is 3 times the GDP. If ECB rate goes up fast enough and the people have mostly variable rate loans/mortgages you’ll see a shit tonne of defaults in Luxembourg. On the other hand it will be a braderie on assets
An issue for sure, but the 100% financed loans for first time buyers in Lux is unheard of in many places in the world, so at least that’s something.
An equivalent offering in the US is only available to select few (docs, lawyers, low income).
Just look up who is the current minister of housing.
Take his last name and look up which familiy is owning basically all of the Mosel region 🙂
