The N6 is the only bus I can get home from work and I’ve been waiting since almost 3:30, ever since some routes went private this has been happening way more frequently 🥲

Nothing to do with it going private. None of the transport companies can get enough drivers.
The routes aren’t private.
Both Dublin Bus and Go-Ahead have been fined for their poor performance, Dublin Bus nearly twice as much as Go-Ahead.
There’s been so many N6s cancelled today it’s crazy
Privatised transport, utilities and services are cuntish. Its a shambles.
Happens regularly with the 63.
When that route was the 17A(-ish), I remember it got worse when it was privatised. Once three were supposed to come in a certain time and none did. When the fourth eventually arrived, I told the driver and he just told me I was wrong, like I hadn’t been standing there all that time waiting. Sorry to hear it’s not getting better as the N6. 🙁
I’m not saying don’t raise awareness and warn others on here, but you really need to be doing the most complaining about this piss poor service to Dublin Bus and isn’t there a transport regulator? Can this sort of terrible service and lack of fucks given by the operator be reported to them or is all they do is give the green light to taxi drivers to increase their fares?!
Same happened last night with the Waterford – Tramore 360 bus without any explanation
The 76 is an absolute disgrace most days in either direction.
Every worker should be entitled to a free e-bike until public transport is improved.
That bus route would be effortless on an e-bike.
Lads just give up on buses and buy yourself an e scooter or moped. Seriously it will take all the stress out of your lives. Thats what I did after a year of standing at bus stops for buses that didnt show. and me there fuming because I was late yet again. Spent the next 7 years scooting around Dublin in the bus lanes to my own timetable and I could always be certain of how long a journey would take. Was always top at the red lights and then away into clean empty road on the green, it was pure bliss for getting around the city.
Ive always said the bus service works 90% of the time but the 10% it doesnt has you absolutely raging and its just not worth the stress of standing at a stop wondering if the thing is going to show up.
I seen something about Dublin bus TFI and the luas all got fines today for this crap, I think it was on the Irish Times
Please report every time to the NTA and your local TDs and councilors.
I was waiting for that bus around 4pm, I almost gave up before it turned up. It’s a bit of a joke lately, some times it will be on time but most it’s always late or cancelled.
It was the 17a. New name, same old shit, or whatever the saying is.
The 17a was a significant factor as to why I had to quit my job, since I depended on public transport. It caused me to go into fight or flight every morning, not knowing when I would arrive into work. It was always packed, and regularly skipped several stops, fucking a lot of people over who depend on it.
It’s an extremely unreliable and poor service. I don’t know how they have been getting away with that shitshow of a service for this long, it’s notorious. And on top of that, the passengers on the 17a were always on the wilder or “livelier” side. I see little has changed unfortunately.
Back in 2008, I needed to commute daily between Cabinteely and Donaghmede. I had to take No. 15 to city centre and 145 from there to Cabinteely, and obviously reversed the other way. Couldnt count The amount of times I was left standing in freezing night for 3 hours and had to take taxi home. This forced me to obtain drivers licence and car. I see that nothing has changed since then at all.
Car culture won’t die until public transport is sorted out. That’s a fact.
This is why I only use trains, and the trains are pretty bad compared to the continent.
Only use buses to get to trains.
People really should be treating privatized bus routes as a protest-worthy issue, on the same level as the water protests – because now that the public has allowed it to start, it is _guaranteed_ to accelerate now.
Even the recent doling out of fines for late and no-show buses, has been done to fit further privatization – with a grossly underfunded Dublin Bus being the primary target.
This has all happened before, using exactly this pattern, in the UK.
I took my kids for a bus trip recently because they’re fascinated with double deckers and have never been on one. We we’re 10 minutes early for the bus according to the “real time” tracker on Transport for Ireland. The real time sign on the bus stop wasn’t showing times, but who cares, I had my fancy real-time website.
So the time arrives and no bus. Every few minutes a bus comes by but not the one we’re waiting on. Eventually after 30 minutes one finally shows up. This bus is meant to be every 15 minutes and it was a Sunday morning around 11am, probably a 15-20 minute journey from the first stop to us and we waited the guts of 45 minutes. Paid €4-something for this wonderful experience.
I told my kids they’re getting the real bus experience here and my 5-year-old then asked that we drive from now on. I feel sorry for anyone who actually needs to be at a certain place by a certain time and has to rely on the bus to achieve that. At least the front seats on the top deck were empty.
I pray you never have to depend on the 17 bus, its a bit of mystery, some people believe it does exist others don’t believe stories 😊
Sounds like America has infiltrated/infected your public transit systems with capitalism. Sorry 😮💨☹️
Problem is getting drivers…there’s a big push on to get drivers by both companies atm…but when ppl see the shift they usually run away or try it for a while and then run away.
Eamon Ryan should get a weekly report on every late and cancelled bus, and be forced to respond to it. I’m on board with the Greens transport policies, honestly I think they’re the only ones paying attention to what’s coming down the line. But fuck sake, people will never leave their cars as long as this bullshit continues, and it only gives ammunition to the enemies of progress.
In Germany they have to pay you 50 euros or something after a certain threshold
Like every other industry, public transport is struggling to get and keep drivers. It’s not so much a problem for trains and luas right now, but the bus network in Dublin has gone/is going through a massive reorganisation and expansion. A large number of routes have seen increased services scheduled, which means more drivers are needed.
We’ve also seen living standards for drivers drop. The terms that they’re working under aren’t great after the recent inflation, and the hours can be punishing, so many drivers have left. The end result of all this is a less reliable service, as despite having more scheduled buses, there’s now less reliablility in whether or not they’ll turn up.
I thought that it was a bit rich of the NTA to fine the two companies, to be honest, as the NTA are the only ones that can change the contract with those companies. Pay them more so that they can offer better terms to their drivers, so that they can increase reliability.
Also, it’ll happen with trains soon enough. DART+ is going to increase the number of drivers required, with longer hours. When that happens, they’ll need to recruit a load of drivers from a dwindling pool.
A recession might sort this out of course, as people will stay in a steady job, but a recession is all sorts of bad for everyone.
Don’t tell me private companies prioritise profit over service. Margaret Thatcher lied to us.
