  1. Since when did we pay people to mind their own kids?

And why is there an entire article dedicated to this woman complaining that the government dosnt give her the money directly, moanbags

  2. I assume her 4 1/2 year old kid has disability. Otherwise she should probably spend more time being thankful that her family can support one working parent.

  3. This woman’s complaints remind me of men who say they’re babysitting when they’re caring for their own children.

  4. > “It’s not income into my bank account, it’s not pay and it’s not recognition.

Am I missing something or does she not understand what tax credits are?

  5. Twitter has just completely hollowed out journalism from both ends.

There’s the obvious consumer end, where social media encourages outrage and click bait.

There’s also though the more insidious producer end, where social media hits the ability of journalists to find stories. It’s very easy, and therefore tempting, to just contact some eejit with a hot take who is “impacted” by whatever decision. It’s the next best thing to a press release, just take down their uninformed and semi deranged ramblings and you’ve got your piece.

Doesn’t matter if it’s inaccurate or misinformed, sure doesn’t that get shared even more than a well worked out piece.

  6. Aren’t tax credits just the simplest existing mechanism for the government to give us money back? Besides, if her husband is the only earner he’s already getting all of her tax credits as is

  7. This is ridiculous. Surely household income is what counts. Some people are just determined not to be happy with what they get no matter what.

  8. Her level of entitlement is insane.

Why should the government pay her to be a stay at home parent? And yes if her partner is working he’s basically paying her if he’s providing for her. A tax credit is useless to her if she hasn’t got income.

Also it’s incredibly generous that the government is offering the credit to non married couples. Don’t bite the hand that feeds you.

  9. So she’d rather they apply the tax credit to the stay-at-home partner who has little or no income and therefore pays no taxes and therefore gets no benefit at all from an additional tax credit, then?

  10. I think the question of whether she qualifies has been answered – the government has decided that extra credits apply. Whether they should go to her husband depends on a lot of factors. For some stay at home parents, there is a the possibility that the earning partner is financially abusive, and this won’t help them at all.

  11. She needs to look at her own life choices first before she blames anything and everything for her situation.

  12. Em…how the fuck can you apply a tax credit to no income? Isn’t the point that the couple share everything? She seems to not understand the basics here.

  13. well, its a tax credit, you probably don’t earn much money as a stay at home mum, if any at all, it won’t benefit you at all to get the tax credit as you pay probably 0 in terms of taxation.

  14. It’s just shite journalism, they had an article yesterday featuring a landlord whinging about not being able to expense his couch as a business expense. The chap has multiple properties here and in the UK also has been a landlord since the age of 28.
