If we’re clever, we can stop this aggression in its tracks.
The pro-Ukraine nations should set up POW camps in nearby European countries, and fill the battlefields with announcements that if they surrender, the reluctant conscripts will get 3 hots and a cot in an allied POW camp.
After screening for those who have committed war crimes, perhaps the POWs could be transferred to those nations which have already opened their borders to Russian conscription evaders, like Georgia and Khazakhstan.
We could suck those conscripts off the battlefield as fast as Putin pushes them in.
This will be even more effective as Winter closes in.
Is there any downside to this?
It’s obvious to me most of the conscripts are not going to be from Moscow, they are going to be minorities from the poorer parts of Russia so its easier for Putin to cover their deaths with propaganda. Showing a bunch of white men with rifles and uniforms in good condition was just propaganda, not representative of actual conditions for the majority of his conscripts.
300k soldiers means ~1 million meals per day. Even assuming Putin had 300k uniforms and rifles in good condition I’m very doubtful they have logistics in place for things like food and fuel especially considering Ukraine has been targeting Russian supply depots.
Putin is just trying to fill the streets with warm bodies so Ukraine can’t move in with their own troops. Putins conscripts will spend the winter freezing and starving huddled in basements while Ukraine shells Russian supply lines, artillery, and anything of worth on the battlefield.
