> In Parliament today the new health secretary, Dr Thérèse Coffey, claimed 40% of the government’s day-to-day public spending goes on health and social care.
> This is based on a definition of “day-to-day spending” which excludes large amounts of what may be reasonably called day-to-day spending, like pension and benefit payments, and is an issue which Full Fact has written about before.
FFS, shameless lies from day one.
> Dr Thérèse Coffey
Has anyone fact checked her title yet?
I really wish whan they call her Dr that they added Dr of chemistry that worked for Mars incorporated (as in mars bar)
Awful human. Completely failed upwards and only has her current role because an ideological bottom of the barrel Tory government doesn’t have the talent in it to assign anyone competent.
As a health care professional I wanted to be professional and give her a chance.
She was interviewed on Nick Ferrari on LBC.
She claimed.
“We’re giving Pharmacies the opportunity to provide prescriptions which up until now have only been available by going to a GP and getting a prescription”
Just to make a minor observation – That is a complete fucking lie. Prescribing pharmacists are not a new thing, while yes they are not available in every pharmacy, it is not unheard of. Independent prescribing among nursing is a well established field and prescriptions are not the sole preserve of GPs. There are also the well established mechanism of PGDs. These allow health care professionals who are not registered prescribers to dispense medications without a formal prescription. These are common place in UTCs and cover everything from antibiotics to pain killers.
She is clearly grossly misinformed about the structure of the NHS and the social care sector, or she is openly lying about how the sector is structured. Either way she is clearly not fit to be in office; and she’s barely been in a week given that last week was essentially a holiday.
Only thing she can give an accurate account of is a bag of doughnuts.
