27 August 1961 :Two weeks after the construction of the Berlin Wall, the Charlie checkpoint is the scene of a showdown between Americans and Soviets. For several hours, Soviet and American tanks, some tens of meters apart, face each other at the crossing point between East Berlin and West Berlin.

  2. As a war veteran of many thousands of tank battles in which I have personally commanded various types of armor from tank destroyers to MBTs, I can say that these tanks are not optimally positioned for frontal assault.

    Hardly any angle of front armor and 0 protection of the lower plate.
