Cocaine is now the second most popular drug in France

  1. No pandemic, no war, no economic crisis, no political crisis, seems to stop it.

The production of cocaine is like a Tsunami. In only 5 years, it has doubled to reach 1784 tons a year worldwide according to the French Government Office Against Drugs and Addictive Behaviors.

France, with many ports, is not escaping this tsunami. The white powder produced by the coca tree is no longer only used by the wealthy and fashionable.

Laurent Bigorgne, head of the Montaigne Institute and informal Macron advisor, was recently accused of drugging a female colleague with MDMA. He also admitted to regularly taking Cocaine. This story reminds us that cocaine remains liked by the wealthy. However, consumption is growing among all social classes

The first time Cedric (his name was changed) took cocaine, it was in the military.

This man, 35, now working in the IT field, says :

*« My group was in Southern France in 2008. Nobody knows but a lot of people in the military take drugs. It is better perceived if you take cocaine, which is a stimulant, rather than weed, which is for the lazy, and associated with bad suburbs »*

His “real” consumption, however, only started a couple of years later, in Paris, where he met his future wife.

*« She had many friends, and they took a lot of coke, openly. When we organized parties with them, in the 11th arrondissement of Paris, there were these huge rails of cocaine. It was far more than 2 or 3 rails »”*

One wedding and two children later, Cedric is still taking coke, from time to time, always in evening parties.

*« For me, it’s the best drug, even if I know it’s extremely addictive »*

Dr William Lowenstein, addiction expert and head of SAVE Addicts, says it’s true.

*« There is change. It’s no longer just the upper classes. In my office, I now see bakers, food and fruits workers, real estate agents, club employees »*

Silently, coke has become the second most used drug in France says the French Observatory of Drug Consumption. The number of adults who have experienced coke (5.6%) has been multiplied by four in two decades.

Most of Cocaine is produced in Colombia, Peru and Bolivia, and travels by the sea on containers. Cocaine also arrives by the air, with mules taking flights from Guyanna. And the phenomenon is growing. In 2019, 1200 mules were arrested. In 2010, only 88 people were.

France is only a small part of a bigger picture. Europe is becoming a major cocaine market. Record amounts have been seized in 2020, nearly 214 tons, compared to only 177 tons in 2018. Belgium, Netherlands and Spain make up 70% of seized coke.

And you no longer need to go near a shaddy block to buy some. You can order cocaine on your phone or through apps like WhatsApp or Snapchat with dealers bring powder directly to your place or by delivery

*”I regularly receive messages on WhatsApp from my dealer, with special offers, like Caro PURE 97% or small videos”* says Cedric

Despite becoming less elitist, cocaine has a positive glamour image among the young, who are not aware of the health risks that come with it. While alcohol is linked with violence and heroine is linked with zombies, powder, which is a stimulent, remains associated with performance.

These last few years, demand for healthcare has not ceased to grow. Between 2015 and 2019, the number of patients who seek care for cocaine addiction has not ceased to grow. Doctors feel lost, partly because there is no safe substitute for the product, like Methadone for Heroin.

  2. Well, cartels certainly know how to advertise.

    What’s next?

“Put the Coca back in Coca-cola.” or “Coke. Just do it!”…

  3. That’s the whole west in general. The west and their leftist *woke* culture sure love their drugs 🥵. No wonder big changes are coming soon for the whole EU!

Vote for change! Vote conservative! 💪🏻

  4. War on Drugs unfortunately knows no bounds and Europeans crave for hard drugs is destroying lives in poor countries that’re already in a shit storm without gangs.
