Either this is constantly being reported because its intentionally inflammatory, or it’s our government up to no good. Either way it stinks. I find it hard to believe Tories doing something to help people, especially in need from another country.
Might just buy my Kiwi girlfriend a flight to France and a dinghy instead of going through the the correct immigration process at a cost of ~£9k.
They’re not even trying to stop it anymore.
When you elect populist governments who “have had enough of experts” and instead of listening to expert advice you decide to tear up cooperation agreements with your neighbours and scream about “taking back control” and “sovereignty”, you really can’t be surprised if the reality that is delivered is nothing like the one that the con men promised you.
Mugs.
Is this sustainable long term – where do they all go and what will they do here?
I’ve just returned from Africa. I visited some of the poorest parts. An awful council estate, in some dump of a UK town, is heaven compared to the conditions and poverty these people suffer. If I was them, I’d be risking my life in an inflatable too. I think if you don’t witness it first hand, you really can’t comprehend the depth of deprivation these people are trying to escape from. It’s truly shocking. Even the water is life threatening, and the sanitation, if it exists, is medieval. As for medical care, I struggled, and failed, to find even painkillers. We don’t know we’re born, even in these difficult times. I don’t know what the answers are, but I have nothing for compassion for even the ‘economic’ African migrants. Many are running away from a living hell. Oh, and I didn’t even go to anywhere suffering from famine or war, just regular places.
I suspect this will all come to a head when they have to start dumping them on the doorsteps of rich folks
Poorer areas are taking the strain here, within councils that are already struggling with budgets. Once the central gov funding inevitably stops, they will start to be a burden on their local council tax bill.
You can’t stop it. There are too many people making good money off it happening trying to keep it going
It’s not our responsibility to be some kind of Jesus of Nations. Send them back.
The migrants will be kicking themselves when they realise they’ve arrived in yet another country that’s swiftly going down the toilet…
Nice.
Everybody who against those sweet people are bigot and probably racist. We should be welcomed to everybody.
Why don’t we collect them from France ourselves? If its about stopping the people smugglers profiteering in dangerous sea crossings… why don’t we just collect them from France and hear their case in the UK?
Do they know our economy is in free fall? We should start ferrying then over to desperately prop up our economy
Yes, welcome them all to the UK, London says it welcomes immigrants etc, jolly good, who’s paying for them btw, just asking for a friend…

For a second I thought I was on r/tories
