Too late, a competitor did it in my street a few weeks back, immediately undercut Virgins prices and their customer support were a delight to deal with….when does THAT happen!
Virgin can get stuffed charging stupid amounts because they are all thats available.
I’m still with them.. but my logic is, my original installation was done by the late (and great) TW/BY crowd. Its pretty reliable to where I regularly see neighbours (who had theirs put in more recently by vm) constantly having trouble with theirs
Its just a barebones package though (bb/phone) as I don’t watch television.. and honestly even then, there are much better alternatives out there which don’t leave you feeling like you are basically subsidizing the footie to scratch an itch.
Good old days.. any other old fart gamers still remember when cable rolled out? 🙂
VMs service always seems to be completely plagued with issues. Its great that they can hit these headline speeds, but they don’t deploy the network the back up their claims. Contention is likely to be very high so getting those speeds at peak times especially is likely unachievable. Anecdotally, since working from home I can tell who has VM in Teams calls as they are the ones with the network issues, laggy webcams etc.
Their complete failure to deploy IPv6 shows that their technical leadership is incompetent, but it also may indicate there are other issues. They could still be using equipment so old at key areas of their network that IPv6 is impossible. They appear to simply not have the expertise, or are unwilling to invest in it.
~~I mean they’ve not completed it – it’s about two thirds done – and~~
this is only about the *potential* to deliver those speeds. At the network level their customers are still packed in like sardines.
Having the worlds fastest tyres doesn’t mean you have the worlds fastest car. The rest of the structure ALSO has to be built around delivering speed and Virgin’s isn’t.
It’s actually bizarre to me that they managed to get shitty coax to do gigabit speeds reliably at reasonable lengths. Like…mine is currently in a puddle.
Could the upgrade be the cause of Virgin Media customers losing TV services last week?
Honestly I like Virgin, their TV box is good and their internet is reliable (IMHO) but I really dislike their pricing structure. Stop making me quit and haggle over deals every 18 months, I’ll sign up for a consistent deal that’s moderately priced. Also, let me modify my package more easily as I might want to experiment by upgrading my internet or adding on TV packages.
I could get ~900mb/s with BT but currently with Sky who max out at 500mb/s to the ONT. Speeds are consistent and had 0 outages in 8 months of living here. Line quality is insane compared to BTs regular FTTC infrastructure.
Unfortunately for my Street it is Virgin or nothing. BT will only give me 3-5 meg broadband
I’d just like speeds better than 30Mb in my 20 year old house
I’ve never had an issue with Virgin. Price aside, though threatening to leave gets them to turn that around very quickly.
Also with o2, and having both does come with some benefits thag will be nice while they last
Meanwhile today O2’s mobile network has been down. Useless cunts.
