I’m on a short trip to Košice, and I visited the cathedral in the center today. I noticed these plaques on the wall and was wondering if anyone knows what they’re for? I didn’t want to ask random people in the church since they were either praying or sitting in silence, and I couldn’t see any explanation. Maybe I missed it
they’re thanking for help/answered prayers
Košice Cathedral is not unique in this. These plaques are fairly common across the world in the churches or at least at altars devoted to Holy Mary. Pilgrimage sites are also full of them.
EDIT: yeah and the small red thing on the left is fire alarm. Even Catholics know it’s too late for prayers when fire is burning. 😉
Just for notice, you can find paving blocks around cathedral that says, who donated money to city to improve/fix square and cathedral
tombstones of Hungarians who attempted to throw rocks at the windows
