Double discriminatory rental listing!

  1. Am I wrong that it’s illegal to discriminate on the grounds of both age and nationality?

I mean obviously you choose your tenant for your own private reasons, but I thought publicly imposing restrictions like this was illegal.

  2. We are fortunately still not living in a Communist country and people can do their business as they please (to a degree).

    – There are very good reasons to not wanting pets when renting out your property which probably do not need to be elaborated.

    – If you want to rent out your place and don’t want the hassle to have to go back an forth in a language you may not be fluent in, and on top want to rent out to a demographic where it is less likely that your property will get ruined, then more power to you!

  3. At least they tell you straight up and aren’t wasting your time. They are free to rent to whoever they want, so in the end it doesn’t really matter how they advertise it.

  4. Maybe they aren‘t very good in French or German or English, and they don‘t want complaints because of noise. And usually older people make less trouble with paying the rent.

  5. I’m 26 and if I had a property to rent, I would do the same. Believe me, the current, aswell as the younger generation don’t know, how to actually behave in co-ownership. Most of them don’t give a single damn about making noises at night, don’t bother to put out the trash for collecting. As result putting trash into others property bins. Throwing cigars rings on stairs… muddling stairs after jogging, because using a carpet requires a master degree and so on…

Too bad that not everyone is like this, but the trouble is simply not worth the risk.

  6. Well, one of the first things my Airbnb host said when I arrived was: “at least you are white so it won’t be too hard for you to find a place. If they could, many landlords would ask for a picture of you to make sure you are white”

I don’t know how accurate this is but I see this being mentioned often.

So with that in mind, this ad sadly doesn’t impress me. If I translated it right I’m assuming it’s a building with mostly elderly people and well, no pets is standard here in 99.99% of rentals that I know of, unless it’s, maybe, a house.

  7. It’s probably illegal to openly discriminate.
But what do you gain from them not telling you, going for a visit, and never hearing from them again?
    It’s a thing that laws can’t fix.
    Edit: spelling

  8. Okay so from what I read, I’m more worried now about my relocation to Lux given that I’m not white and I’ll have hard time finding an apartment to rent

  9. Everybody welcome to come to Luxembourg, everybody welcome to leave again. Like a friend used to say when visiting his place “Feel at home, but dont forget that it’s still my place.”
