How does one live on that, for real? What’s your life like?
Wonderful news when I recently got a pay rise to £9.75.
Why do we ever try…
“Employers should implement the rise as soon as possible but by the latest 14th May 2023”
If you work for an accredited RLW employer do not expect to see this in your paypacket until after this winter. My employer, who is accredited, always waits until the last possible moment to implement the rise, and I’m sure many others do too.
It means there will be no respite this winter for many employees of living wage employers, but a ~£150 pay rise for FTE in the spring.
We were hoping that them bringing the announcement of the RLW forward would mean they’d also alter the deadline for implementation, but they’ve kept it the same.
For comparison, the government-established National Living Wage is expected to rise to £10.37 in the new financial year in April. However, this projection was made before the change in leadership.
So if Real Living Wage is £10.90 why is minimum wage £9.50? That means anyone on minimum which there are a lot can’t live.
I’m hopeful that the living wage (not the voluntary one) will be increased at tomorrows “fiscal event”. I won’t hold my breath but it would be a good move.
Late Stage Capitalism in a nutshell – how much is the *minimum* wage?
Of course, it’s less than the cost of living.
Why do we even have a minimum? Because if they could pay you nothing, they would.
Everyday my money becomes worth less and less and my time worth more and more.
Living wage at 10.90 means more people do not need help from the gov. Which saves us money.
Why the gov even a tory one not pushing for this is behond logic.
Look tories. If you want a smaller goverment and low taxes then make the minimum wage to the living wage.
Huh, that is more than I am on and my employer is listed on the living wage foundation page. How long does it normally take before they have to raise you wage to match it?
