GVA/Nieuwsblad are capitalizing on this by inserting the “Al 600 euro per maand meer, daar kan je al eens iets mee doen” quote in the title, to make it look like our politicians are so money hungry that they demand more money in times of crisis. That’s almost Fox News level of clickbait.
Is this like their 5% wage decrease they approved a few years ago, but “forgot” to implement?
Is it satire?

– Politician proposing indexjump on their own wage is good. It means their wage won’t automatically increase next time.
– The obvious play is the politician proposing next year that everyone’s wages will skip indexation and that they lead by example.
– The real play is to avoid increasing wages faster than the loonnorm (i.e. faster than neighbouring countries), as proposed by the unions and probably next year by the PS by moving the Overton window prematurely in the other direction thereby making maintaining the status quo seems like they are compromising their own more ‘radical’ pov (that never had any chance of working). The unions will get to organise a global strike and reinforce their own popularity with the workers and nothing will change. Also the PS might refuse step 1 (because it cause a precedent) and the politician will be able to claim the PS are greedy.

– Third: steadily decrease the income threshold until only the poorest see any indexation at all.
-Fourth: wage campaign against the poor
– Fifth: abolish the index all together
It’s all just part of a cynical political theatre. Won’t be long before N-VA insists on a indexsprong for everyone… .
