Is it *actually* tens of thousands?

  1. Not a great picture to promote “tens of thousands”

“I’m no good at judging the size of crowds, but i’d say theres around seventeen million of them out there”

  2. I’m hoping there’s a good drone shot so we can get a more accurate estimate of numbers – pictures like this don’t really tell the story

  3. Based on Twitter, I’d guess maybe about 10k (and that’s what a participant counting the full crowd passing the GPO said too), but impossible to be sure.

  4. You can’t judge it walking (but in other pictures it doesn’t look very dense at all).

The best way to judge is seeing an overhead view of the crowd when it all gets to Merrion Sq.

It can be compared to other marches then.

  5. I heard some older ladies say the news will probably say ‘700 people showed up to a small protest in Dublin today’. I expect they were anti mainstream news. Hopefully we can all agree on a number and the debate is about the effectiveness of the protest.

  6. 20,000 was the estimate during the protest. Im not great at numbers, but they filled the length of O Connel Street from parnell Square to o connell Bridge.

  7. Paul Murphy will always exaggerate the figures. RTE will always downplay the figures. Feels like it’s been that way for any post recession protest.

  8. As the great Dougal McGuire said…I’m not good at judging the size of crowds Ted but I’d say there’s about 17 million of them out there!

  9. We stood and watched the entire lot move through the end of Grafton St. From Murphy at the front to the Garda escort at the back and there was probably 2k people in total. But… They were so incredibly disjointed with about 50 different groups shouting about 20 different issues.

Would it not have made more sense to organise a coherent single issue protest?

  10. People here rabidly anti-socialist. Yet the main past time of this sub is whinging about the cost of living crisis and fair enough. Just don’t bemoan one the few people in the Dáil actually doing something about it at the same time.

  11. I was there today, I’d say bare minimum 5k but it could easily have been over 10k. It was a great crowd, the atmosphere was class.

Come join the next one on November 12th to be heard.

  12. Was there myself, definitely one of the biggest protests I’ve ever been to and I’ve been at almost all left wing protests in the last few years in Dublin. Probably 15,000 I’d say.

  13. Man I’m sorry he didn’t hire a helicopter to get the best aerial shot. It doesn’t fucking matter about discrepancies, this is a huge crowd

  14. Man who calls for strick lockdowns (which required excessive money printing to keep the country going) now chastises the cost of living increases ( which resulted from extra money in circulation fighting for same number of goods and services).

And he doesn’t get it 🤣
