Climate change will impact biodiversity far more than a windfarm 10k off the coast.
What do we want!?
Cheap renewable energy!
Where do we want it!?
Nowhere!
Fucken dopes. we could be like Denmark if it wasn’t for a the luddite selfish cunts on this island.
NIMBYs or BANANAs?
Oh no Fintan!
Is this just a protest or is there some way they can put in a formal objection?
FFS, place them where works
Well when the shit hits the fan I propose their electricity gets cut off first.
Does anyone else think the State should be owning these themself instead of letting Private operators run them and sell the power back to us at a profit?
Surely the best long term solution would be State owned wind farms which we could use to fund services and provide low cost energy to Irish homes?
On a selfish note, I’d like them further out too. They will be very visible and they are still possible further out, just less profit for private companies. We’d have the best of both worlds in that situation, could keep the marine vistas looking the same as they always have and have loads of State owned renewable energy.
Its always rich boy barrett or one of his ilk. Where do they want us to get the electricity from.
Christ. So there’s people protesting in Dublin about the cost of living. A lot of this directly down to the cost of fossil fuels and now a protest over a windfarm that is helpful to reduce our dependency on fossil fuels. A right to protest shouldn’t mean any idiot gets to dictate whether something is good or bad
They don’t want to be on the east coast spoiling their sea views. But you don’t mind them in the west coast spoiling our views. I’m delighted now that the east coast is the only place suitable for the off shore ones.
I occasionally work on planning applications for wind farms. There will *always* be objectors to a wind farm, that’s a given.
It’s not enough to say “It will spoil my view” or “It will ruin the area” or “It will reduce my house price”, because there is a legitimate public interest in renewable energy and we acknowledge that there will inevitably be minor impacts. Those types of objections will not get an application refused.
However, specific, accurate objections relating to environmental issues will carry weight. For example, an impact on a protected species within a protected area will convene certain laws, and make a development illegal. It is the responsibility of the wind farm developer to employ an environmental team to assess impacts in detail, and to address any concerns of objectors. However, if the objectors have a legitimate issue with a biodiversity issue, then it suggests the developer’s environmental team hasn’t done enough. They’ll have an opportunity to collect enough information to clarify whether or not there will be an impact, before An Bord Pleanala makes a decision.
I’d be confident that the development wil ultimately get permission. It may take time to address all concerns, but we’ll get there eventually
I really despite this argument as the view of view people over the ocean cannot be disturbed by turbine kilometers away.
But, I am wondering, if from a pragmatic point of view, it wouldn’t be faster to just find another spot with less people around.
Not surprised at all. He’s opposed to everything.
The climate crisis is nothing but a buzz word to our alphabet left. The worst thing of all is that there are genuinely people on this subreddit who think they have any feasible notions about it.
They’ll moan and moan about it yet support absolutely nothing that might you know; remedy our piss poor energy security and our total reliance on imported fossil fuels. There is a reason these morons have been supporting that absolutely stupid SF sponsored bill to essentially ban on land turbines for over a decade.
Well I live on the North Wicklow coast and I welcome the wind turbines.
If a small group of people is able to stop and ground to a halt every project in this country then we’re never gonna get anywhere
