Sept 30 (Reuters) – Nicaragua suspended diplomatic ties with the Netherlands on Friday, according to a statement published by the Central American country’s foreign ministry.
The Nicaraguan government took the decision because the “interventionist and neo-colonial” European country had “offended and keeps offending Nicaraguan families,” the statement said.
Earlier this week, Nicaraguan officials declared the European Union ambassador “persona non grata” and also said that the country would not accept the new U.S. ambassador, fueling tensions between President Daniel Ortega and the international community.
Well the world really is in crisis. Getting snubbed by Nicaragua just the worst.
Every dictator’s gonna embrace hyper-isolationism at some point.

Nicaragua has always been an admirer of Russia. Not surprising that will push NATO countries away as support as a minion to the Putler.

Ortega is a joke. His wife is literally his VP. He’s imprisoned the political opposition. And Nicaragua is basically a client state of Russia at this point. I feel bad for most of the people there suffering under his dictatorship, but if he wants to isolate the country, then good riddance. Maybe the collapse of his regime will come sooner.

A lot of Dutch backpacker make their way through Central America. I wonder if they will have any trouble with tourist visas?

Dutch people, probably.
Granted I’m not Dutch but I can’t think of any historical reasons for the two countries to have noticeable ties together in the first place.
Should’ve been the other way round
The Netherlands is a trading country. There is not much trade with Nicaragua.

The Netherlands is the geographically closest EU country to Venezuela and had to deal with Venezuelan refugees. Because of this the government put extra pressure on the Venezuelan regime, and I guess that’s the “neo-colonialism” they are talking about.
