Let Labour deal with it, is probably their thinking
“Sound money is the most conservative of conservative values. If we don’t stand for that, I don’t know what the point of the Conservative Party is.” Rishi Sunak writing in The Times in July 2022
“The past is a foreign country; they do things differently there.” LP Hartley, The Go-Between, 1953
*Still couldn’t risk Labour making a good mess of it could we?*
Bearing in mind Truss and her cabals background. A history of objectivism and a belief that the state is inherently evil nothing is off the table with these gangsters.
I never thought I’d hear myself say this, but the sooner Starmer gets into power the better. I can’t believe the Tory membership chose Truss over Sunak
The whole world is laughing at us. Whilst they hit energy company windfall taxes…we are taking out a huge loan to keep that tap flowing! We are even boasting about trickle down and trying to encourage others to jump into the abyss. Everyone is warning this is economic suicide before we get the “captain hindsight” stuff when this goes very badly wrong.
We had the swivel eyed loons of the erg, now it’s the Britannia unchained nut cases
Hmm? Seems a bit late to talk about “mounting debts” after we’ve borrowed billions for the past decade without seeing any real issues.
Seems like questionable motives from the IFS.
Even Rees Mogg himself was on Sky News last month saying governments never repay debts so we don’t need to worry about it and that since QE debt is owed by the government itself the real level of national debt is only 60%.
Government debt doesn’t work like household debt, Tories just lie to people that it does.
Labour or any other party would be slammed for spend a few thousands pounds on things but Tories can borrow hundreds of billions and the media / population doesn’t bat an eye lid
That’s what happens when we have someone as corrupt and stupid as Truss in charge
Her and her cunt friends should be charged for treason for the mess they’re making of the UK, it’ll take years to fix
Kwasi Kwarteng – (Smiles, laughs, shuffles in chair awkwardly.)
As an older person this reminds me so much of the news in 2009 about how public spending needed to be cut or debt was unsustainable. Turns out growth and inflation are the key to managing public debt.
Truss and co are going to wreck the economy for the long term in a monumentally stupid economic experiment the country cannot afford.
The markets have shown their contempt for our fiscal policy, the pound is circling the drain. Down 20% against the dollar in the last year. That’s a 20% additional cost in itself to import goods.
The price we pay for the most incompetent political class in generations. They will leave behind to the young a massive national debt at unsustainable levels, no economic growth, little prospect of a brighter future and a currency in crisis.
