To add, the UP is home to the largest number of Finn Americans in the US. They went there to work the copper mines and I swear I can hear the result of Finnish roots in the Yooper accent. They stayed as it reminded them of home (cold, woods, long winters and short summer etc).
Edit: Sorry I get excited when I see my home state, ha.
School was founded in 1896 and was named Suomi College.
