  1. Microsoft’s gaming division is still going to be a smaller publisher then PlayStation after this if I recall.

  2. I don’t really see Activision (or any gaming company) being big enough to merit an actual anti-competative block. The whole gaming scene is pretty decentralized.

Not to mention that Xbox is smaller than both Playstation and Nintendo.

  3. I am biased, having played on Microsoft platforms all my life (almost 30 years on PC, but I also have an Xbox), as well as having been invested financially in Microsoft, as well as having chosen a career path pretty much forged into existence by this company.

But even if that weren’t the case, the previous arrogance of PlayStation does not go unnoticed. Years of ridicule, exclusivity, hardware deals and adverserial ads. Xbox One and Xbox Series are pretty much lost console generations for Microsoft. Sony is the big boy in this segment, and they have made sure everybody knows. They have the upper hand, the better exclusive titles even after Microsoft has been buying studios for years. The Sony lineup is undisputedly superior.

The difference is that Microsoft doesn’t care. The Activision deal is insane (and by the way, fuck Activision!), Sony cannot compete with that. It won’t be the last deal either. If I remember correctly, gaming made for like 7% of Microsoft’s revenue in 2022 so far.

  4. I don’t use either console, but Sony has had the Monopoly on the Console market for the last decade. They’ve also been very anti-competitive during that time, a lot of games were made PS exclusive or had content gate only for the PS (timed or permanent).

The switch isn’t really a competitor since they focus on completely different things and the biggest sellers on it are first-party titles.

Even with Microsoft buying Activision they won’t be the biggest game distributor out there.

  5. Democracy: a chance once every 4 or 5 years to influence policy.

Lobbying: a chance whenever you want to influence policy.

    Hmmm…
