People thought Corbyn and I would crash the pound. The real risk was Truss and her fanatics | John McDonnell

  1. I rather like John McDonnell. What does this sub make of him? Has he been successfully smeared yet? Just trying to work out who has and who hasn’t been purged.

  2. They would have, thank god they didn’t get in and Starmer is already building strange relationships with business leaders, as per The Economist.

Anyone seriously suggesting this lot wouldn’t have been a disaster don’t understand why the markets have reacted the way they have!

  3. He’s conveniently ignoring that neither May, nor Boris, nor Rishi tried to crash the economy and Starmer doesn’t look like he’s going to. So no, Corbyn & McD was not the only alternative.

Their irrational, self-centered mania for power and willingness to be Jon Lansman and Len McCluskey’s political puppets, ensured we have the Tory government of today.

McDonnell doesn’t disgust me as much as Corbyn, but he was there next to Corbyn all the time instead of supporting an actually electable, clued-up leader so he’s part of the problem.

  4. Not just truss, the tories have deliberately destroyed the foundations of the country brick by brick.

  5. The comments on that are like the greatest hits of delusional, “anyone’s fault but us” Corbyn stab-in-the-back mythmaking.

That’s going to cause Labour problems down the line.

  6. It’s been like that since Brown during the 2010 election. He was smeared after selling off the gold reserves at a low price and blamed for the financial crisis, despite the main contributor being the US sb-prime mortgage crisis. Labour are not perfect but the Tories have overseen twelve years of declining living standards and slowly hindered the economy at every possible turn. To claim Labour would be as bad, let alone worse, is simply ignoring everything the Tories have done while in power.

  7. Yeah, but is there any relevance? This is when we were comparing them to Boris and Sajid back in 2019, pre-Covid
