  1. This is going to be a waste of money. Would be a much better investment to put the money into a light rail system from West to east. The problem with public transport in Galway is basically everything goes through Eyre Square.

  2. I can’t see the point at all that this ringroad will be bad for the environment, more cars, more emissions and less of an incentive to use public transportation being the points some people are making. By taking a lot of traffic out of the city you are immediately making public transportation more of an option as bus routes can be totally rejigged to make it more efficient and viable for people. Stop, start traffic in the city is creates more emissions than cars actually moving on a bypass. Also getting traffic out of the city will allow more pedestrianisation of streets which can help retail, tourism and hospitality and maybe encourage more cycling. It can also incentivise more industries to the outskirts of the city allowing people who live in Galway to work in Galway. The benefits of this project are massive and I have no idea why this wasn’t built in the 90s when everyone could see that the traffic was choking the economy and environment. I suppose governments had to prioritize filling potholes in country roads in Kerry.
