Victoria Derbyshire Shuts Down Tory MP For ‘Ignoring’ Questions | Sure, and I’m going to stop you there. Because every question I ask, you are ignoring

  1. This should be happening more often, or alternatively their audio should be cut off with an explanation that they are talking crap instead of answering the question.

  2. Meanwhile at the same time on BBC1 QT, Fiona Bruce was giving the Gvt representative free reign to spout any old nonsense without holding him to account and only really came alive when a Tory asked a question about how Starmer would pay for his spending.

You would have to have a heart of stone not to laugh!

  3. I saw this last night and it was quite refreshing to see Victoria shutting him down several times – you could even see him continuing to spout in the background but his sound had been turned down. Even when she opened him back up he continued to basically talk off a script and not answer the question.

  4. This should be the standard, the bare minimum. It’s insane that when accepting an interview politicians are just allowed to talk about something else when being asked a question.

  5. TV presenters should not be afraid to follow the line started by Jeremy Paxman and continued here.
Either answer the damned question as asked or stfu

  6. There seems to have been a bit of a change in the way journalists are conducting their interviews with Tory MPs at the moment. They’re making no effort to hide their contempt.

  7. Nice one.

Something else I’d really like to hear interviewers do is when they ask a politician a question that requires a straight yes or no answer but just get waffle, they should respond “As you haven’t answered my question, I’ll take that as a yes” (or no, depending on which answer is appropriate).

  8. Imagine the suffering we could have been spared if journalists had been treating the ruling Tory party like this the whole time? We might not have had Brexit at all!

  9. I was disappointed when Victoria seemed to get someone in her ear telling her to let him speak for longer.

As his nonsense waffled on she seemed to interrupt him less and he was still not answering the questions sadly.

Glad she did it, she should have done it more.

  10. I wish this would happen more often. Answer the question you are asked or get told to stop. Maybe if all journalists did this we’d get some actual answers from MPs instead of whatever message they’ve been order to repeat.

  11. She’s an awful hypocrite. Saw her literally do the same thing this article criticises the conservative MP doing during a 16min interview where she just ignores the other person and quotes random people off twitter who do not like the person being interviewed.

  12. Good on Victoria, they need to just cut politicians off if they can’t/ won’t answer the question

  13. Daniel Kawczynski is one of the single most malevolent MPs out there. He slips under the radar by following the wip but he is corrupt to the core. He’s in bed with half a dozen middle eastern dictatorships to the point where other MPs jokingly call him the MP for Riyadh Central. And he does this despite being gay himself. Absolutely vile human.

  14. This is why I like Andrew Marr. I don’t agree with much of what he believes politically, but he’s always willing to call out lies and question dodging. I wish more journalists were like this, maybe then we’d get a few actually competent people in Parliament.

  15. Only way to deal with these liars – should happen in every interview as all they do is lie and repeat their PR points from their lists.

  16. It’s useless trying to interview them they say what they want to say and never divert from it

Makes them look like total morons but they have no shame

Now just imagine a world where the media were on our side..

  17. Something something Putin’s war in Ukraine, something something the Bank of England is independent, something something misleading statement about the energy price cap.
