  1. Un-paywalled article: [https://12ft.io/proxy?q=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ft.com%2Fcontent%2Fd5f1d564-8c08-4711-b11d-9c6c7759f2b8%3FsegmentId%3D3f81fe28-ba5d-8a93-616e-4859191fabd8](https://12ft.io/proxy?q=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ft.com%2Fcontent%2Fd5f1d564-8c08-4711-b11d-9c6c7759f2b8%3FsegmentId%3D3f81fe28-ba5d-8a93-616e-4859191fabd8)

The degree to which this article headline buries the lede truly annoys me, as the key piece of information here is not something as obvious as the Tories being “unmoored”, but rather that they are now **The most economically far-right party** ***in the world****.*

Not only that, according to the experts polled, they are essentially moving the Overton window of economic policy further than it currently is within any of the 61 included economies. This is all strongly in conflict with the electorate, even the Tory electorate, hence the headline, but, again, burying the lede.

  2. They don’t care. They’re on the final round, the ‘*smash-&-grab*’ bonus round. They’re just trying to grab as much of the country’s wealth before they all fuck off to Billionaire’s Island.

    Fuck ‘em.

  3. The Tories have become unmoored from reality.

Too many years of drinking the Brexit potion.

  4. They’ve always been this way, people just seem to be starting to wake up for it.

Not to worry though, come election time, people will see a few memes on Facebook and all will be forgiven and forgotten.

  5. She’d become persuaded by free market extremists, it’s blown up in her fucking face, and I am here and fully present for it.

She can’t back away from it, because it’s the only reason they put her in the job. No one else in Party like her for PM, except the murky ERG crowd – who secure funding from even murkier sources.

It was written in 2019 that [there was a party within a party](https://theferret.scot/european-research-group-brexit-documents/) and while everyone was pant wetting about the Socialists taking over the Labour party – it was actually happening to the sitting Government – beginning way back, with the extreme Right faction clustered around the ERG securing a Referendum from Cameron, then eliminating moderates like Hammond et al from the Party.

Papers like the Financial Times have been calling out unbridled and immoral capitalism for a few years now. Still a capitalist rag in my book – but even they realised they must maintain at least a facade of decency if the system is to survive.

This year, with the price of energy (set by market) and now this – the economic future of the UK – we have been served two material & existential threats that demonstrate the risks of free market idolatry.

Will we heed the warning ?

  6. Implying they were ever moored to the British public?

The past 12 long, long years or Tory rule have been a shameless exercise in lining the pockets of themselves, their mates and big business, to the detriment of every single other facet of the UK.

  7. no shit where have you been for the last decade. oh that’s right till now it’s not effected you

  8. They have been unmoored for years. The difference is the media and their vote base in the public finally stopping allowing themselves being dragged along by Tory lies and bullshit. We’ve stopped letting them spin us a fable and finally the cold harsh reality bites through that these policies are making us poorer and more isolated than we have been for decades.

  9. As someone who has been forced out of work due to ill health.

Feel the best i can look forward to, is for Putin to start lobbing the nukes around.

  10. It was bad during Thatcher’s time but it reached new heights under Cameron post-2008 crisis, then it went further under Johnson and his own brand of corruption. Kwarteng has just initiated a smash and grab to take all he and others can before handing over a ruined economy to Labour to clean up.

  11. This is true. There is a huge British demographic which is completely unrepresented in British politics.

Nutters in the nutter parties are completely incompetent despite how much they shout for change.

And the Tories are fielding their third choice incompetent team who are taking too much direction from senior civil service.

If Big Union gets in with starmer next election God help the real British.

    Dark times ahead.

  12. That’s because Tory policies had nothing to do with any act of beneficence for the British people.

The Reagan/Thatcher axis spelt the ascension of power for the corporation, big business. It meant the end of 25 years of people power creating uncertainty about labour relations. Once monetarism and government policy supported supply and production, ordinary people were slapped into place.

Once that control over a decade was assured, by the end of the 1990’s the Russian threat ended, nationalism controlled by the Right wing had nothing to do any longer with protecting the country from foreign forces. Concomitantly with the decline of empire and the rise of China foreign imperialism was lessened for exploitation unless the corporation was supported. The rise of China meant (i) labour problems were exported and profits could be obtained by simple Asian labour substitution. (ii) Then in the medium run China evolved and went from alternative supplier to competition.

Elites were then faced with a problem – who do we screw over now we have exported labour jobs. The remaining domestic labour force. By having women as incomer earners and supply policies the dominant economic orientation, financial capital increased via monetary. And when there is more money around it is inflationary. So your clothing fell in price from Asia and people thought their homes going up in price was good. Only if you had more than one house or your house was large enough that when the kids left you could downsize and enjoy the equity. Except younger people on their own found it harder and suddenly unless you were a two income family life became very tough. So banks laughed all the way to the…bank. Producers and corporations had the power to smash unions, and from the 1980’s the productivity of labour formerly partly returning to labour with higher wages, now went all to the employer and wages stagnated.

Nationalism against the Commies was now redirected and controlled by big business, Tories and the RW. Equity, fairness, were now Marxist ideology and ‘deservedness’ was now the new socio-economic justification. And you deserved high income if you had high income by extracting it from the plebs. Since the plebs were lazy, ineffectual people they deserved their low wages. This was supported by the new Evangelical religions. You’re poor because you’re not deserving in the eyes of the Lord, diseased because you have done Him wrong. By institutionalising poverty and preventing social mobility – the former hallmark of the success of the western system (where cunts like Deidre McCloskey argue the system works brilliantly bc the rest of the world are out of poverty in the tens of millions) that yardstick no longer applies to western economies. Social mobility has declined, the Gini co-efficient has increased demonstrating greater socio-economic inequality. Privatisation as everyone knows is just the transfer of state assets to the private sector cheaply so they can act as rentiers. And that monopoly power is used EXACTLY the wrong way bc with electricity, gas and water there is no incentive for the owners, private companies, to spend their profits on improving the generation of product – they merely say, you are wastrels, we are increasing price due to your waste and the shortages it creates. SO by increasing price you will be more careful. No economic theory argues for increasing price in a natural monopoly as it has very little effect on reducing consumption but it has a major effect on raising profits by extortion – the perfect rentier. And that’s what all private companies want to be.

Nationalism is now the code word for the elites retaining power without sharing it with you and justifying that you don’t deserve a penny of the national wealth you help create. Cause you’d be one of them if you did deserve it. Of course how can you be one of them unless you already are, when your state education is compromised every year, your ability to obtain healthcare declines, and if you come from a poor family you can’t even feed and provide shelter. The Tories via neoliberalism have shafted you every single way and prevented the many from aspiring let alone having a path upwards.
