🍿🍿🍿 Hot Fresh Popcorn for a thread that will surely be entertaining!! Get it while it’s hot!
Also taking bets on how many “Dole Artists” jokes we’ll get!
Good idea and all.
But… Ireland is a nation of chancers and this is subject to immediate abuse.
I wonder how they are going to clarify & quantify this.
For example,
Anto worked in a shop briefly but has been on long term unemployment. He has now purchased a guitar from Donedeal and is classifying himself as a musical artist. Is he entitled to the UBI payment that would be higher than his social welfare payment?
Or let’s take Decco.
Decco has some experience in non-commissioned public displayed artwork using a freeform rattle can technique. He has decided to take up some drawing as well. He’s getting really good at staying in the lines and everything. Is he entitled to the payment?
You know what I’m gonna draw a bit later on, and let’s see how this goes.
Can someone please explain to me what is so special about artists that entitles them to a guaranteed minimum income?
So be an artist, draw beautifully, make music, arrange bananas whatevers you fetish, if you are good people will buy it no?
Income generated?
Be a crap artist and the government will sub you for life?
What does this even mean? Who qualifies as an artist?
Get free money to do fuck all
Christ. There’s a few workshy cunts i know who fancy themselves musicians. Hope they don’t start getting more free money.
The level of begrudgery here is unreal. They’re going to get €325 a week, it’s essentially minimum wage.
Good to hear
You can bet your right bollock to be approved for this the artist will have to be deemed “of cultural significance” by the dinosaurs on the art council.
Are you are an illustrator who draws sci-fi? No money for you.
Are you are a sculpter who does abstract peices? No money for you.
Are you in a rock band? No money for you.
Do you make any art that isn’t hackneyed gael diddly-eye trad shite? No money for you!
Basically you have to be on the arts councils radar already, not open for all, only for some in the current clique.
UBI for all or for none.
Remember when UBI failed in Finland?
How do you qualify for this. I’m sure there are alot of talented people willing to drop pointless jobs to try follow their dreams. Or is this going to be a select few chosen by an elite few?
Fantastic news.
UBI for everyone is the future, it addresses so many societal issues both at home and globally.
It’ll go to the same 10 people in the Irish arts that always get support anyway
It’s tough trying to make money off your art, I guess only a few really make it.
The magic money tree continues
Sorry, but having seen what constitutes ‘Artists’ in my region and the tax funding they have received for some dreadful projects, along with to be frank, some absolute lies about the popularity or critical reviews of work, I’m pretty pissed to learn there is going to be a potentially higher rate of income support as opposed to everyone else.
While it might only be impacting a small %, and while it might be a huge relief to some, feels weird that this kinda went through without any major discussion or opposition
This isn’t really going to help most artists who need it, to qualify you already need 50% of your income to be through art which at that point I don’t see how you aren’t sorted already.
I’m a rock musician, doing everything myself, and hopefully getting my album out soon. Anything for me?
My partner is tattoo artist and digital artist (horror themed art, morbid art), anything for her?
Just kidding guys, we both have full time jobs. And we both do art as a side job. No point in claiming less than our wages.
Everyone should get ‘Universal Basic Income’ and before you say it I do pay ‘a lot’ of tax
Step one in replacing everyone on minimum wage with illegal immigrants.
