From autumn 2024, all portable electronic devices in the EU will have to be chargeable by USB-C

  1. pointless legislation that will only stifle innovation. Not just that, it’s introduced at a point when everything will probably be USB-C unless you want some legacy device.

Basically there will be less choice for people, which means more expense. With of course the outcome that some future devices may be underperforming.

Let the markets decide, they’ve got us to USB-C as it is, if a new standard comes along that is better, I’d rather it was introduced than wait for the EU to decide.

  2. Awesome. I already have a strict rule of not buying anything that doesn’t have USB C for the last ≈ 5 years. This will only speed things up. I assume by next year already nothing incompatible with USB C will get produced anymore. It’s so much freeing when you travel especially, to have one cable to rule them all.
