Senior Tories ‘boycott’ Conservative Party conference as MPs fume over mini-budget fallout

  1. I can’t believe the chancellor won’t be booed when he steps on stage — has that ever happened at a conference before? Surely not so early on in the job. Maybe this is the only way it *won’t* happen…

  2. >Rishi Sunak, Sajid Javid, David Davis and Mel Stride have all told Sky News they will not be attending the annual conference, which is due to start this weekend in Birmingham.

I’m not sure they are senior any more? Which might be the problem

  3. Leaving the Truss followers to clap and jeer her onwards without anybody in the crowd opposing. Great.

  4. Come on, don’t stay away, turn up and boo. That’s the most Tory thing ever sulking, go full mental and boo truss and kwarteng off stage, slow hand claps and so forth…

  5. Given the post-May carnage, Rishi Sunak and Sajid Javid are among a handful of Tory MPs who could be described as ‘senior’.

Seems like a cowardly dereliction of duty not to attend their party conference and attempt to deprogram a few batshit crazy Trussites.

  6. I’m on the one hand enjoying the continuation of the Tories destroying the party… but on the other hand depressed as an unelected nutter is destroying our country

We need a military coup at this rate

  7. I live in a True Blue Conservative town. They would vote for Jimmy Saville’s rotting body if he was stood up as a Tory candidate. These nutters voted Truss (probably through racism).

  8. Ah another way to “show” they don’t approve of the ridiculously stupid policies without actually doing something about it. Get rid of Truss today. Reverse the shambolic mini-budget today. Or own it. Briefing that you’re unhappy means nothing – you support every single Truss gaff, every stupid comment, every evil policy.

  9. Or they could… just resign? Amazes me how many slate the PM but continue to stand by her. Says a lot about their principles.
