‘Our son is living rent-free in our second house. What are the tax implications?’

  1. Imagine living rent free in your parents second home. I pay about €400 a month to my parents to live at home and my mates think it’s crazy enough.

  2. I know a pair of wasters that had their son living in their second house – while he was claiming rent allowance to stay there, alongside his jobseekers allowance. The parents were claiming disability and carers allowance. Whole family never worked in their lives, two houses, brand new car every year.

  3. I just think of the worse case – Imagine the son was on the street, jobless etc – The parents offer to help with a free gaff and it invokes a tax bill.
