Met him at a work do in clontarf. He showed up in a minivan and rapped gangsters paradise with all of my drunk co-workers. He was doing a DJ set in Dublin that night somewhere.
I will never forget him calling my room and every other room in the hotel at 3 in the morning looking for a party. Man was nuts but in the best way. Not sure if he ever found his party.
I was sitting outside Grogans a few months ago having a pint, when a rowdy gang of lads sitting beside me started yelling “COOLIO! HEY COOLIO” at a black lad walking by.
In my head there was no way it was actually Coolio and they were just being a bit racist towards some random dude with dreads. So I wrote the lads off as pricks in my head.
About an hour later I’m in line for a slice of pizza around the corner and fekin Coolio walks in beside me. Nice guy. Felt really bad about judging those lads in Grogans ever since. Sorry lads.
That is up there with booking boyzone’s first appearance on the late late show in terms of cocaine based decisions.
I seen him in costcutters about 7 years ago in Downpatrick, I think he was doing a gig in Rostrevor at the time and just chillin before heading down.
I was about 7 or 8 behind him in the queue for lotto when this wee auld woman behind nudges me in the ribs and says thats coolio, fuckin sure it’s not. Tis it’s him swear it is. Yeah watever. I knew it was him but didn’t want to draw any attention to the fact it was him fo realz.
What he did next shocked the crap out of me, he grabbed a handful of curly wurleys paid for them and handed out a curly wurly to each and every one of us and finished off with a quick informal chat about fire prevention in the home before leaving.
I’m nominating Coolio for honorary Irishman. Who’s seconding this?
