The former international and Manchester United star Eric Cantona said he would not be watching any matches, adding: “Let’s be honest, this World Cup makes no sense. It is an aberration.”
Well spoken!
The actual headline:
> Qatar World Cup 2022: Paris joins boycott of fan zones over human rights
Your headline is your personal opinion. Not something the BBC wrote. France itself isn‘t boycotting the World Cup, some cities won‘t offer public events. That‘s about it. It‘s possible that some cities in Germany will do the same and won‘t host official events. Nevertheless, any pub will be free to offer a TV. Like in France.
France: If we set up giant screens to watch games in mid December, there will be fewer people than summer, not much revenue generated, energy prices are going up anyway and we still need to pay for security, can we just cut this costs someway and don’t make us look like the bad guys… Uh, hold on. Million dollar idea.
And you get that. If France, Germany, or whatever really cared about human rights violation in Qatar, they would’ve announced a boycott 4 years ago.
