Its4women.ie sent me a PDF that I had to print myself for my car insurance disc. Obv doesn’t look the same as the old one and doesn’t have the official-looking foil stamp. Is this going to cause trouble if I’m stopped by the Gardai?

  1. No, I’ve printed almost all of mine and never had any issues. Just print on colour and use the heavy ink setting if you have one, poor quality prints tend to fade in the sun.

  2. I’ve been printing them from 123 via email for years. That’s just the way it is now… the Gardai have direct lookup access for insurance now anyway, so an “official” holograph is no longer necessary or useful.

  3. You know that green strip along the side? I once failed a driving text coz we (husband) had torn that off and apparently it’s illegal to drive the car without that green strip. Didn’t even get to drive the car, it was an automatic fail.

  4. I insist they print it out an post it to me. I pay enough enough for insurance without them outsourcing their work to me

  5. I received a PDF from Allianz but it had a watermark over most of it, then they posted out a copy of it. I suppose if I needed the cover straight away (I didn’t, I sorted my insurance exactly 30 days before it expired as I got a very good quote, compared to my previous insurer. Also, fuck you An Post Insurance and your bullshit automatic €50 renewal fee!!). Just wanted it sorted so I wasn’t in a panic in the last few days and then maybe not have the disc in time and not be able drive for a day or two, or three.

  6. Can’t see it being an issue.
I’m pretty sure they have access to an insurance database that they can access from their work smart phones. If you’re stopped and they’re in doubt, they can check up on it instantly at the roadside.

  7. It’s a weird one. I moved to the north about 4 years ago and you don’t have anything displayed on your window there It’s all digital. The traffic corps here have scanners that check your numberplates for active tax. I got stung, tax xhecking vehicle drives down the street scannkng plates and you just get a notice/fine in the post a few days later. If you’re now also printing you’re own insurance i fail to see why we can’t follow their lead. Are the roadside tax checks necessary or could those garda resources be better used?
