It is a knife from Crete (or Creta) which is the biggest island of Crete and is located in the south of Greece. It’s part of the Cretan Culture and tradition. They are handmade by local Cretan people, and usually they are given to someone as a sign of friendship. The words written on the blade of the knife is called a ‘mantinada’ (ma-di-n’a-dha, gr: μαντινάδα), part of the Cretan tradition and Cretan music lyrics, are words that rhyme.
