No Dougal. Those dreams of owning a house are far away.
Is everyone reading that in Dougals voice in their heads ๐
Imagine holding people accountable for shipping defective materials.
A lot of houses going up at the moment are timber frame. The foundation cost will go up but the house cost shouldn’t go up that much. The real issue here is that the pyrite/mica situation happened in the first place. The fact we as re now paying for this and not the idiots who let this happen in the first place is what is annoying. It’s like the banking crisis. The people responsible walk away and the rest of us pay the price

Building materials are only something like 13% of the cost of a house. So itโs like a 1% increase in price.
Donโt get me wrong thereโs a lot of reasons to hate how the government is handling the house crisis. But this is extremely minor compared to their other policies.
People have become detached from reality in this country. Everyone supported the redress scheme (rightly so), but where did people thing the money was going to come from? Sure you could liquidate the parties involved, but that will earn you pennies on the pound and still leave a massive gap. Ultimately, the tax payer has to step in. This has happened many times before, including the insurance levy when Sean Quinn lost it all on Anglo.
While it sucks that itโs increasing prices for homes in a time of massive shortage and huge inflation, Iโve yet to see someone make a reasonable alternative solution
The difference between the cost of build it a house and the price it will sell for on market rate is huge. Developers are making a huge profit on the sale of houses. It’s not the end buyer should bare the cost of the concert levy.
The problem is FFG either have expressly stated this or even put in measures to ensure this was the case. As per usual in Ireland we penalize the end buyers and don’t go after the developers
“WHAT? PRIESTS! DON’T TELL ME I’M STILL ON THAT FECKIN’ ISLAND?”
One of the greatest lines in a comedy show.
It’s the big developers and building materials suppliers that should be paying for this. First the banks then insurance companies now builders as well as subsidising electricity for commercial consumers. It’s absurd.
I hear your a landlord now father
The mica money is supposed to just come out of nowhere then? This is as idiotic as that other โgotchaโ meme with dougal in it.
That would be an economical matter.
Edit: Matter not problem.

Love the way he’s written as an imbecile but has the most spot on observations of any character in the show.
Ah, does r/Ireland remember about the time it heavily upvoted 100% redress for mica homeowners?
Nah didn’t think so…
Friendly reminder that the famine was caused by absentee landlordism, foreign bodies using land purely as an investment for cash, without any compassion or custodianism.
Dublin’s a mess, London’s a mess for much the same reason. Billionaires buying property as a money storage system because if you can, why not, and our governments allow it because doing favours for billionaires, regardless of where they are from or live, at the expense of your own citizens, is very rewarding.
Good itโs not just the USโฆ I mean not goodโฆ I mean thank you for suffering with usโฆ
Well if Mary Lou can afford a million euro house on a TDs salary the only possible reason anyone in this country has no home must be poor money management right?
Cant wait for 2023 when a house costs less than a freddo bar and still nobody can afford them
Reality is nearly funnier and that’s saying something as Fr.Ted was epic
So let me get this straight, this sub wants a redress scheme but not one which costs anyone money?
Would a Concrete Universal Social Charge be preferable on the taxpayer? If it’s a case of wanting to go after the suppliers of faulty products then surely the affected parties can do that themselves.
Or maybe this sub just thinks there is some sort of money tree?
Feck Arse
Remember when the government opened the borders and increased the population from 3.5 million to 5 million in 30 years.
But hey let’s just blame the cost of concrete.
We hear youโre a capitalist now Father.

No Dougal, they didn’t buy them all, they were just resting in their accounts…
This is a fantastic post. Well done you legendary human.
Is there a dataet somewhere that shows what percentage of new housing or just housing is bought by investment type funds ?

Which tax payer would you like to pay for it.
