“Britain faces a simple and inescapable choice – stability and strong Government with the Conservatives, or chaos with Ed Miliband.”
Easier to ask forgiveness for slacking off on investment for protecting people from the worst weather than ask permission to beforehand when we’re tilting into climate change.
“Forgive me, forgive me”.
It’s only going to get worse. All the easy options are gone, COP26 failed to achieve anything meaningful, and it’s only going to get harder & more expensive from here on.
The UK has arguably the highest subsidy for petroleum production in Europe whilst we are in the grip of a climate crisis. FFS!
The quickest action we could take is deleting a column from a spreadsheet and our government are too chicken shit to do that.
Pathetic.
And we’ve another tomorrow
And we know now, not suspect or predict but actually know that these events will be more and more common and more and more extreme and yet we are doing nothing to prepare for them
Climate change already means these are locked in and guaranteed and happening everywhere more frequently. Once in a century events now happen every ten years or in some cases 100 yr floods are happening every year or two.
In the US a billion dollar disaster used to occur about every nine months, these events now happen every three weeks. In the uk we already have homes that cannot be insured because of the absolute certainty of their flooding. Plans and mitigation’s out in place to limit flooding only to once a century events and no so redundant the actuaries deem them so likely that insurance premiums cannot be high enough to warrant any insurance at any level
And this is the early stages of the changes
We’re is the national resilience program that will take years to build in systems and processes and assets to cope with these events ?
Climate change fir the UK means more rain, more floods, more extremes of hot dry summers and droughts and more bad winter storms.
This is not a theory, we are already living it.
And yet here we are fumbling around all confused
It’s terrifying because if we don’t start building resilience now we are fucked. Utterly fucked.
For a country that’s “great” at everything we sure do have shit infrastructure.
Why is the thumbnail a picture of Michael Gove’s shed?
Why would Tories care about the North? They havent for the last decade, which is why its so stupid they decided to vote for them in such numbers lately. Hopefully they learned to not trust Tories again.
A first world country with a third world infrastructure. Repair the tax system Johnson, it’s badly broken.
