Almost 19% of ALL passenger cars registered in Norway as of 30.09.2022 are fully electric. In 2016 the share was only 3.66%

  1. Norway also has a very high share of electrification in heating sector, IIRC 60% of households in Norway are heated with electric heating

99% of Norway electricity is produced by renewables(hydro and increasingly wind power)

Norway still has high Co2 emissions per capita, but this is partially due to the emissions produced by oil and gas extraction(which consumes lots of energy)

1/3 of Norway’s emissions are produced by oil and gas industry

  3. I would have thought that was even more, given the headstart that Norway had and considering that whole Europe share is 10%

  4. Not a good example for other European countries. We are currently discussing potential blackouts this winter in eg Germany and France. You think we then should get more EV in these countries? We have to change the whole infrastructure first. But knowing our politicians, they are pushing for change with out preparation before and crashing the whole system.

  5. EV’s make sense if electricity is somewhat cheap compared to gasoline; in Eastern Europe where it is not the case also, charging infrastructure availability is limited, especially outside major towns.

Another major concern is how good EV’s fare during winter, i.e. at least older EV’s were known (Nissan Leaf) to lose battery capacity during winter colds. Couple all this with how much a nice EV costs and it’s easy to see why people aren’t so savvy to make the switch just yet.

It is probably a matter of time when all these issues are solved, but for now buying a nice, new EV is out of budget for many regular folks.
