Ignore the hype: Keir Starmer remains unelectable

  1. What did they mean by this? Starmer is perhaps the most inspiring leader of his generation. I feel the electricity in the air whenever he speaks. A real champion of the working man. Not at all an MI5 plant.

  2. What next telegraph; labour purposefully drugged Kwasi and Truss for the last week and a bit to forcibly make them make the announcement?

Perhaps we can claim Corbyn is secretly puppeteering all of Labours leadership?

Maybe even go full american and claim SOCIALIST MARXIST ALPHABET IMMIGRANTS RUN LABOUR

  3. Written by Camilla Tominey one of the Wicked Witches of Brexit, Royal Commentator and die hard Tory.

Hardly a surprising take and not one that should be considered seriously.

  4. That’s it then. Now that we have the telegraph’s verdict, pack it up boys – indentured servitude and crippling work until the grave is certainly the better option.

  5. I’m not overly confident in the man, but I’d choose him over any strong Left union type Labour leader, or what is currently running the country.

  6. We are not a presidential democracy you vote for the party not the leader… Or at least that’s the government reply to the petition with 150k signatures demanding a general election

  7. It might vary by age, so working-age people may consider him electable, whilst retired people may not. The big divide in perceptions tends to be between workers and retirees, two groups who often have very oppositional interests.

  8. A Tory supporting newspaper bashing the opposition…idc for Labour/Starmer but by being “boring” and not being a cult of personality suddenly people see them as an opposition party and not voting for a demagogue so maybe that’s why some Tory voters feel ok voting for him? Also Boris & Liz should have, by reasonable metrics, been unelectable and yet here we are.

  9. >And everyone agrees that the communications around the mini-Budget have been woeful.

It’s not the communications that are the problem with the mini-budget haha.

This article doesn’t really say anything of substance. It mainly focusses on the comments of a now suspended Labour MP. Torygraph clearly getting desperate.

  10. “This nonsense ‘unelectable’ branding worked last time I guess we just go with that again”

  11. Gosh… That’s a bit like “The Sun Says” column but without the long words, no?

I mean the Telegraph comments pieces have always been thinly veiled right wing rants (As you would expect) but normally they have something of substance behind them.

This was little more than “I don’t like it and I’m going to stamp my foot”, which I guess does reflect the infantile level of internal Tory politics the party is going through. I mean, it’s not as though Starmer or his policies are difficult to legitimate criticise beyond despising Truss on every level, but hey! If this is the best Truss’s press can come up with…

  12. Oppositions do not win general elections, governments lose general elections.

And fuck me is Liz Truss doing her best to lose the next general election. Borrowing for tax cuts for the rich is not a good look.
