Krasse Geschichte! Weiss jemand, um wen es sich bei dieser Person handelt? Dürfte ja mit all den Informationen im Artikel nicht allzu schwer herauszufinden sein.
As I also posted the same link but the post was deleted I will just copy my comment over here as well
Reading this piece is really sickening, I agree.
Having a legal system that can imprison people for liking something on social media becaus they “support terrorism” while people who come from the right circles get a slap on the wrist shows the worst of this country.
It’s absolutely sad especially as many people think that our standards are so much higher than elsewhere. But people don’t want to hear it.
🤮🤮🤮
This is perplexing: What exactly is a prominent left wing family in Switzerland? The only names that come to mind would be the family of one of the SP Federal Council Members. In cases like this I definitely think CH courts value privacy too much and limit freedom of the press too much.
I’m a little conflicted about this. I think it’s actually a **good thing** not to sensationalise terrorism/hate crimes in the media. Jacinda Ardern has been praised for her decision not to mention the name of a domestic terrorist and Norway has adopted a similar policy. So I actually think the way this showed up in the papers, namely short notices like “Student with White Lives Matter shirt convicted for stabbing” is the way it should be done.
Of course this should be applied universally and not just to well connected kids.
edit: in the end, I think the article does a bad job differentiating the different aspects of the story. It’s entirely possible he got off too easy/should have been indicted on terrorism charges and that, still, keeping him anonymous and not sensationalising the story was the right call. Both can be true at the same time.
One one hand it is a good thing, that the name of this sick guy is not mentioned. That‘s what he wants: to be set on the same level as the other assholes in Norway, NZ and other countries. I really hope that his name will be forgotten and cancelled.
On the other hand, as a taxpayer I would like to know the name of the institution which is subsidized with state money and has a neonazi as head and public representative.
This institution has a serious issue and it should be made clear to the public.
Then there is the part of inequality in our justice system and that people with money and connections can have special treatment by our courts and justices. This is the most appalling aspect of this whole story. It also throws a very dark shadow on our media landscape of the only paper speaking up to this is a relatively small online magazine.
I really hope this article sparks further investigation by other journalists.
Typical “republik” article.
Mostly solid journalism interspersed with something that can only be described as nigh-braindead levels of lack of self-awareness.
I think an interesting point is actually:
The judge was a member of the green party, but an ex-svp guy wants it to be higher. I agree with Kaegi in this case, 5.5 years seems very low.
But I guess what we learned here is that money and friends come before party or ideology.
For the record: Comparing the phrase “White Lives Matter” with al-Quaida, Osama bin Laden and the IS is about as ridiculous as comparing the phrase “Black Lives Matter” with Mao Zedong. Or “All Lives Matter” with Adolf Hitler. And “Make peace, not war” with Mussolini.
Now, it appears to be evident that the guy was a rightwing extremist. But that opener about the t-shirt is nothing but hyperbole.
>So wurde eine Person etwa wegen Unterstützung einer terroristischen Organisation zu dreieinhalb Jahren unbedingter Freiheitsstrafe verurteilt, weil sie ein Facebook-Konto eröffnet und von diesem islamistischen Sympathisanten Freundschaftsanfragen verschickt hatte.
WTF
Maybe the “Obergericht” and/or the “Bundesgericht” show a bit more distance to the perp’s social circle and revise the sentence into a more realistic direction.
If not we have another example that the “Rechts” in “Rechtsstaat” has another meaning than most people in this country believe.
Thanks for posting. There are ways of making these things public, without immortalizing these individuals and this type of media blackout is kinda worrying. I worry for the future, when this guy walks free again. Imagine, him committing some atrocity and the classic response of intelligence agencies: “how could one have ever known…it came out of the blue”
The Zürich bourgeoise should be ashamed once more.
