  2. No thanks. I’ve been to Egypt and seen all the trash surrounding the pyramids. It’s fucking disgusting. It’s patently clear that Egyptian authorities do not take good care of Egyptian relics. Why should anyone give them anything? So it can be lost within a decade or two?

I’m all for giving back objects that are culturally important to the peoples they were taken from, but the only link the Rosetta Stone has with modern Egypt is that they both were/are on the same landmass. This isn’t part of modern Egyptian culture, but rather of the culture that modern Islamic Egypt replaced. I think we should look at these cases differently than we do f.e. African artifacts taken from the people that are today still there and are missing culturally important items to them.
