Let me know what ya’ll think about [my attempt to create a distinctive national flag](https://www.reddit.com/r/vexillology/comments/xwtpnc/merged_slovenias_naval_jack_and_civil_ensign_to/) out of two current banners.

###**edit**: thanks for all the helpful information in understanding your culture. A /r/Slovenia member messaged me to tell me to “just fly the coat of arms on a solid background color,” but then did not specify which color — would a lime-colored background be “too left-wing political?”

So then I created my own [Slovenian naval jack](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Slovenian_Navy) out of a [Ukraine flag](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flag_of_Ukraine) and old bleached bedsheet.

  4. I’m afraid to say, that in terms of flag design, it is not very aesthetically pleasing, as it has to many strips, making it rather comical. I might also add, that a lot of left wing people might also detest the use of yellow, as it is associated with the countries largest right wing party.

    Besides all that, changing a countries flag due to its similarity to the Russian flag, would not be well received by the public, as it may be perceived as a show of weakness. It is also worth noting that, even though Russia used a similar flag to it’s current one in the past, at the time Slovenia chose their national flag, Russia was still using a Soviet flag (my way of saying dibs 😅).

    On the other hand, it is worth noting, that changing the flag was already a subject of debate in the past. Several proposals were made, but none were accepted. Most prominent proposals included the use of light green (the same colour worn by the majority of our national sports teams). You can check some of them out by googling “Slovenia flag change”.

    Nevertheless I thank you for your effort and support for our country.

    It is probably the one and only attempt, that didn’t failed miserably.

    If we ever change the flag (which I doubt), this is the only one that would get a pass from me.

    The current flag is ok and I love it. It is not my problem, if people are ignorant as fuck and think it is Russia or Slovakia. By that logic also Slovakia should change their flag, because it is too similair to Russian flag.

    FYI Slovenian flag got their colors from Carniolan coat of arms which was a major province on Slovenian soil. The colors on our flags got nothing to do with Russia and is a total coincidence.

  6. Wtf, our flag is always flown with CoA so tell people that think it is Russian to open the world book. In fact, both Ukrainian and Slovenian flags have their own meanings and are not interchangeable.

  8. Leave our national symbol and flag as it is you sick fuck! Invest into educating your neighbours rather than changing our flag into something that pleases them, you sick fucks!
