> City councillors vote to retain 2022 rates despite warnings of €50 million funding gap
Voting in favor of reducing LPT by 15%, the maximum allowable amount, and the amount the council has voted every year since the introduction, were FG, FF, SF, PBP, and independents. Greens, Labour, and SocDems opposed. Nothing showing on counciltracker.ie yet.
Property tax for someone’s first or only property is ridiculous. The state shouldn’t be allowed to charge you tax merely for existing. We already get taxed up the arse on income, USC, VAT etc.
By all means second and third properties and so on, but not on your primary residence.
Now reject Keegan himself.
Well I guess the councillors and their voters must be happy with the state of the city and its services so.
My impression of DCC is that it’s pretty spendthrift. If holding property tax at its current level, or cutting it further, is what’s needed to curb the spending enthusiasm of city councillors and city management, then I’m all in favour. I’d cut commercial rates too.
Arent dublin and other large councils penalised in that some of the LPT collected goes to other councils via a pooling mechanism?
“I am surprised Keegan has not entered the market himself and provided increased property tax for his voters”
Something that I rarely see mentioned is if you’re in a managed estate and/or apartment, you’re paying for some services twice. We pay €1,700 service charges plus our LPT. Our service charges cover the roads, lights, greens etc in our estate. I’d like to see a (partial) rebate / tax credit as DCC has decided it’s too hard to engage with the developer and take the estate in charge because of the outstanding issues.
